4* 40
Hi. I am building a Supersportster 40 and it is near completion. I am concerned with it being my second plane. I was pondering the thought of getting a 4*40 for a number reasons. 1. I would have another plane kit to work on
2. I could learn to fly a low wing with two different planes
My future plans are to build and fly WWI and WWII military planes. I want to get used to flying slowly and mastering the controls. I wanted some input on my plans. Thanks. Joe

Go for it.
You'll love the 4-Star. It is an inexpensive kit, easy build and flys nice.
You'll also love that Sportster. To me it is a little more "sporty" in the air than the 4*.
Both have their strong points though and you can never have too many airplanes.

While I do love the Sportster, (I'm on my 3rd), The Four* is probably a better choice for a second model. It's lighter and a little easier to handle.
The Sportster flies much better, in my opinion, but the added weight gives it different flight characteristics, In my opinion, it is a good Warbird trainer, because of the added weight.

RE: 4* 40
What Chuck and Tom said!!!! I used to teach students to build with there second plane and used the SS, I really like the SS better but the 4* series is just A little easier to fly, not a bunch but a bit. The SS is a much tougher plane though as far as handling and hanger rash goes. I never thought of it before but the SS is a pretty good trainer for a war bird, thanks Tom.

GTMUSTANGCS, I just noticed that you are a couple hours south of me in Bakersfield. I sold a 4-star to another RCU member from down there about a year or so ago (maybe it was two). Whenever someone mentions a 4-Star, I wonder if this one is still if it's still flying. It was actually number 3 for me. The first ended up as a pile of splinters on the maiden flight and the second crashed into a pond when the second owner forgot to put his transmitter antenna up. Here's a pic.

Thanks for all the info. Great pics Chuck. Where do you fly. I have a new mustang that I love to drive and I would not mind at all visiting your field. I could really use some more lessons on my trainer ( Pilot QB 40S). I'll definately build the 4*.

I'm hoping for a clear, calm dry day this weekend and hopefully a few next week while I'm on vacation, I'm having flying withdrawals. The lower temps don't make much difference to me but can't fly in the fog or rain.
I'm down in Bakersfield a few times a year for work but I've never made it to any hobby shops. Any good ones?
Speaking of Mustangs, I had a couple GT's myself: an 86 and a 90. The 90 was my first new car when I was 19. Wish I still had the 90 but I suppose that's for another discussion forum.
