Default How "fuel proof" is butyrate dope?

I plan to use 30% heli fuel with my somethin extra/saito82 this year. I only have colored dope on the engine area. Last year I used 15% nitro with no problems.

Will the higher nitro loosen the dope?

It should be OK as long as you don't let raw fuel set on the doped area

Dope is not fuel proof. it is fool resistant!

30% Heli fuel in a Saito .82?????? You planning to invest heavily in Saito Crankcases, rods and pistons? You should be okay with that fuel if you clean the plane before putting it away. I run 30% in a Webra Speed, and don't have any problems with the butyrate in the engine compartment.

I know it sounds crazy eh!! But I have a number of friends running their saito 4 strokers on heli fuel.

Saito themselves use heli fuel on their engines. Here is the proof:

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=SAIE100

If you look half way down the page u will see this:

"Our staff commonly uses 30% heli fuel in Saito engines, as it not only gives better top-end performance but it runs smoother, gives a better transition, and runs cooler."

I mostly fly my Ultimate 160/DL50 & Aeroworks Extra 260/spe43 wich are gas so I don't go through a lot of nitro with my somethin extra/saito 82 & GP Extra 300/saito 100 and quite honestly the somthin extra & saito 82 doesn't really need it cause the vertical is good with 15% but I primarily want to use the 30% on my extra 300/saito 100. If I buy cases of the heli fuel I can get it cheaper and will use it on both of my saitos...

I have run this airplane for two racing seasons now with a YS on 45% nitro and on several occasions with 55% nitro. The glass cowling is painted black with Lustrecoat and no primer, The firewall area is coated with thinned epoxy and no pigment. There has been no softening of the cowls Lustrecoat or the epoxy coated firewall. The cowl paint looks like new still.

I have no idea what 30 percent is running a while back it was 30 bucks....bottom line it's twice what 15 percent is...or there abouts...Do you really see a difference?

Yes quite significant... Although my buddies run them a bit rich. In fact I tried to keep up with a friends somthin extra/ saito 82. He was on 30% heli fuel running a APC 14-4w. I was on 15% running a MA 14-6, I couldn't keep up.

Sig says 15%. For some reason all these manufacturers know more than the average person.

Butyrate is the best paint to use on glow fueled airplanes. Butyrate loves glow fuel! It's interesting how your original question has changed to simply whether or not you should be using 30% nitro.

Oh, I've always just run 15% nitro in my four strokes and it's worked just fine. I don't think 30% is going to hurt, but it is way more expensive! Enjoy!
