Really causing me to wonder why any manual would say that. Doesn't matter at all where servo is located far as I know. You say new to gas. Do you mean gas or glow? Some folks seem to group them together.

assuming the linkage is set up correctly, you should be fine...

but is it the motor manual or the plane?
which motor..?

Most modern gas motors are shielded much better than they used to be...

Spark ignition systems can and will induce RF interferance through any servo or servo wiring and that is the reason for the the suggestion. In addition this type of interferance can be induced through a conductive throttle pushrod. So using any spark ignition engine you should also use a non conductive pushrod such as plastic nyrod or equivilent.

Mount the servo as far away from the engine as possible and use the plastic Nyrod as John says

Make sure you've got a resister plug.... use no metal to metal contact on the linkage... and if you're using a 2.4 gig system you'll be fine.
