Default How to tighten up horizontal stab thats removable

I have an 1/4 scale Wild Hare Edge 540 that i bought used & only had 2 flights on it. Question is the Horizontal stab is removable & has some play in it from side to side in the aluminum tube. Is this going to cause any problems. I'd say its move less than a 1/16" of an inch. The play is in the horizontal stab halves. Other than epoxing on the halves is there any other way to tighten up...

You could brush a thin coat of epoxy on the tube, let it set and sand it smooth if necessary or sand it down to a diameter that fits.

I'm going through the same thing with an Extra 30%. I tried shims between the stab halves, that worked for a while, a short while. I have tried to use silicone as a shim, that too lasted a short while. I think I will try Mikes little trick with the epoxy and shims for fixing any side thrust problems.

I take it you have a tube within a tube. Can you wrap some vinyl electrical tape on the outside of the inner tube to reduce the slop?

Electrical tape, no, maybe clear scotch tape?? The tube is a very good fit but they only used one screw on each side to hold the stabs on. I just started to fool with this little problem and have been trying one thing at a time to see if I could find what was needed. So far the shims and silicone hasn't worked for me. I will try some tape and see what happens, if that works, great. For 63 I think if I had his plane I would call Wild Hare and see what they have to say about it. I have had very good luck with them on things like this. My plane is a proto type that never made it into construction so I have no one to call.

Tape is the answer, been doing that for years, and it works great.

Aluminum tape, specifically. I bought many rolls of aluminum tape at "99c only" stores when they had a rare inventory of this, very rare inventory........I think 3M makes it.....a very reputable company.

I had just enough room for scotch tape and it was a tight fit, worked great though!!!!!!!!
