Are "Children" viewing RCU
I've always wondered if Children viewed RCU?
I started modeling at age 6 or so with the help of my Grandfather. The Comet and stick kits. Is my age showing?
It's totally different today with PC's and all. So I ask, does anyone know if Children are viewing these Threads?
They must be all over the place here, allowed to do so, probably by their parents, because everything, or all information offered by modelers, is harmless. Correct?
Yes, you guessed correctly, I've discovered something, and I must say, I'm not delighted.
So I ask, are or could there be Children viewing Threads in RCU. Does anybody care?

RE: Are
How young does a person need to be for you to be concerned?
People as young as 13 regularly post in the airplane forums. I would guess the car forums have participants younger than that.
Every post on RCU has a link to report it to the moderators. I have used it a few times. Sometimes threads get deleted or shut down, other times a moderator sends a note explaining why the thread is left alone.

RE: Are
Carrell,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I know all about that. However, I'm referring to someting a bit more complicated than the method currently used to report.
Based on what I've seen already, issues are developing and words and ideas should be shared about these issues.
I believe it's important, more thanever,to determine the volumeof "Children" viewers.
Is there a place for adultinformation, to be viewed by Children on RCU?
I personally believe not.
Edited: I belive I've accomplished part of what I've set out to expose. Knowledge and action.

RE: Are
RCU strives to maintain a family friendly forum where parents can allow their children to view RCU without having to worry about them being exposed to inappropriate materials. When we find anything not appropriate it will be removed by the moderators here. However, RCU is a HUGE place and we cannot see everything here on RCU. Because of this we rely on members such as yourself pointing out things that shouldn't be here. The report system is usually the best way to do that. However, if you feel that this needs more immediate attention you can PM myself, Marc (RCAdmin), or Nathan directly and we'll get it taken care of. If you want to PM me the situation you are addressing I will be more than happy to look into it.

RE: Are
RCU is a family oreinted site because there are young minds in the forums all the time. I am not sure why you think finding out how many young folks are in the forums, but there are quite a few. As moderators we deal with them as well when they cross the lines and are breaking the rules. Youth or not, RCU is a great place to read about modeling wiothout all the cuss words and nasty attitudes. As for XXX sites on RCU, there have been attempts to sneak a few in under the suggestion of another RC site, but the moderating staff catches up with them and they are removed. They do not belong here and if you find one you can report it as has already been mentioned or you can contact any moderator for help. If you have any specific questions or issue, drop me a note. Ok, I think I know what's going on now. I see that you reported a thread talking about Nose Art on warbirds. I looked at the picture you reported and I did not see anything wrong with it. But when it does come to Nose Art on planes we usually will allow those posts to stay as they are historic in nature, and pictures of such planes can be found in any public library in the US. Now if the pictures are truly vulgar or are clearly not historic and not in a historic nature then we will look at removing it. It's very hard to talk about RC planes based on War Planes without being able to discuss the markings and symbols on those planes. But in cases like this we will look at them on a case by case basis and evaluate the pictures then. But we will not rule them out as a class of art/pictures as a whole for the reasons I have just stated.

Ken,
WRONG!
Has nothing to do with Nose Art. I've been a "Nose Art" artest for over 30 years.
It has to do with other material.
Does anyone ever visit websites when they are Posted?

RE: Are
RCU has software in place to remove certain 'four letter words' automatically so I do think they attempt to keep the forums free of X rated content.
I agree that the link you sent via PM should not be posted on RCU. Nothing in the site is RC related, and even though nothing I saw looked X rated, there are drawings/watercolors of nude women on the site.
But, at the end of the day:
Parents, not web site owners, are responsible for monitoring their children's internet usage.

Avaiojet,
Unfortunately we can't visit EVERY link that is posted in the threads here on RCU. Some do get visited and some don't. However, now that you have pointed out the issue to me the appropriate actions have been taken and the link has been removed.

We do not follow every single link here on rcu that is posted. when our moderators find a link that leads to something inappropriate for children or if we get a report of such we remove it immediately. Yes kids to view RCU so we try to keep it family friendly. Our general rule of thumb is that if it would be seen on prime time network television it is ok for rcu.

RE: Are
Personally, I think the moderators here do an excellent job of monitoring the posts. Hopefully, lots of children read these posts as they can gain a lot of valuable knowledge. If the child has had the proper parenting, an occasional exposure to something more adult should not damage her/him in any way. If you want an indication of what not to do or say, listen into any locker room conversations of grade school and high school kids, you will be shocked by what you hear and I bet they did not get that information off of RCU.

RE: Are
You must have your reasons for not coming out and explaining what it is you are concerned about, but if you would just tell us maybe we can look into it and do something about it. That is if it is all that bad. No one here on this site wants anything to be posted that would be harmful to anyone no matter what the age.
Thanks for getting involved but please say what it is you find troubling.

The issue at hand has been taken care off. As mentioned, if anyone finds a link on RCU that takes you to an adult site then please report it as soon as possible or contact anyone of the moderators here on RCU, and it will be removed. I am going to lock this thread down, as in keeping with our family friendly attitude we do not want to post any links here that might not be acceptable. Once again, thanks for your concern on this issue and if you do find one report it. Thanks Dave
