12V Lead-Acid charging question
I have a Hobbico 12V battery (7Ah) that I charge with a Hobbico 600mAh charger. The battery was used for a brief period of time and was then stored for 3 years, so it was likely in a deep discharge state when I got it out of storage. I charged it overnight (outside, on a concrete pad [8D]), and it has been keeping its charge quite well (~13.5V after a full charge), so I have been using it.
The problem is, the charger gets quite warm (borderline hot) during the charge sessions, even if topping up for a few hours. The battery itself barely gets warm, but I am surprised of how warm the charger gets. I don't recall if this was the case when I first bought everything, but it is concerning me.
Is this normal? If not, is the problem likely to be the battery or the charger?

Yes, that is normal. I am surprised though that the battery is holding a charge and performing well. Usually, a deep discharge and long idle time is the death knell for SLA batteries. I think you were very lucky.
