Has anyone built on glass?
I have been building kits since I was in my teens....long time ago....started with stick rubber band powered to Top Flight War birds....always bulit on a flat board with some thing soft to pin into... ceiling tile. balsa building board, etc. However I recently replaced my work bench put a nice solid door top on it an now I wondering what to use to stick pins in..
I have a nice piece of plate glass and was wondering how it would work to place plans under the glass and use CA to tack pieces to the glass. I figure if careful you could remove the finished assenbly from the glass using a straight edge razor blade.
Has anyone ever built using this method....or should I stick to a more proven method.
Any comments are welcome
Thanks

I build with magnets as follows: I use a large piece of 1/2" glass for the base and have galvanized sheet metal on top of it; works like a charm. If you want to learn more about building with magnets (or anything else RC), visit: www.airfieldmodels.com which is an EXCELLENT site.

I use some glass from an old aquarium I took apart for laminating. It works great to make your own balsa ply, or evn wider balsa sheets from two narrow ones...

Go into the kit building forum and look at the thread for the Carl Goldburg Extra 300, next to the last page. Ilikebipes is using angle stock to keep things nice and straight. Check out the photos and you will see how well it would work on a glass top.

I use plate glass on my bench for a lot of my cutting and when doing covering. I normally build on a sheet of wallboard over my bench. Pins work in it and it stays straight. ENJOY !!! RED

I build on a 1/4 thick piece of plate glass on top of a solid core door.It is flat much flatter than ciling tiles or wall board as moisture in the air will cause them to warp just a bit.you just use ca to glue to th glass or a drop of hot glue .when finished just use a new razor blade to scepe the old glue off.Chad Veich uses Glass also chec out his hellcat build in the warbird forum

A good place to get glass cheap (FREE) is at a home center. Ask if they have a patio door with defective seals. They always end up sitting around in the back room taking up space. They are happy to give them away. I got one a number of years ago at a local building supply company
