Super Sportster with Retracts
Has anyone built a 60 sized, GP Super Sportster with retracts. I think this plane would look very good and fly even better with her wheels up. 
If so, any complications, or advise would be appreciated. Thanks.............

Super Sportster with Retracts
I built the 40 size with retracts. I used some cheap red tag no name retracts from Hobby Shack. They went in like a dream. I put the retracts on the wood rail and then set them in the notches in the ribs. I used 1/16 ply doublers on each side of the stock balsa ribs. I have over 60 flights and the only problem I have is when I dumb thumb the landing and bend the wire.

She flys like a Super Sportster
Really the plane flys very well. I can tell the differance when you pull the gear up. She does fly faster with them up and it just looks good when they are being pulled up. It took about as long to install the retracts as it would have to build the whole wing. If you do it you will like it.

I had Kraft Electrics in mine and there was a huge diff. The plane flew faster and looked great in the air. The only problem was I used small wheels so the hole in the bottom wasn't so big and the field I moved to was grass. That wasn't as good but it still flew very well. You will like it. Go for it.

Thanks Guys,
This is going to be my winter project. I like the shape of the SS as is, and think it'll be pure dynamite in the air with wheels tucked in. I'm flying off grass, but am confident in my building skills to bash the kit with strength.

.........Thanks Flyboy. Plan on using Dave Brown mechanical retracts unless you have a better suggestion. They'll be on the 60 sized model.

I haven't used them but they should be fine. The Kraft electrics are impossible to get now and heavy. I will use them again on the next one because I like the scale appearance when they go up and down. I found a new set at a swap meet for $10 but they don't have the amp. I will have to use the old one.
