What spray paint to use on Koverall
Greetings from the Jersey Shore,
I am finishing up a 4*60 and will be using Koverall with nitrate dope. For color, I was thinking about white and metalic maroon with black trim. My question is what kind of spray cans are available in metalic colors. Or should I get an hvlp spayer and skip the spraypaint alltogether? ( I already have an air compressor)
Whatever I use should be fuel proof and also compatable with nitrate.
Thanks,
...Steve

Hawk,
I Have used Koverall for years. I think it is one of the best coverings if ya like to paint. As for what kind of paint well I have used most all products that have been available for modeling on it. I like applying it with Sig Stik-it, I have found to be the fastest. Used to use dope to apply it with but thats so slow. Paint it with clear dope two or more coats to fill the weave. You can add some talc to the dope to help fill the weave. After that you can paint with pretty much any paint ya what with the exception of Nelsons paint. Nelsons paint ya dont need dope as it wont stick to it and its water based.
Also, I have found that alot of the paints that used to be available are not being sold anymore.

Any recomendations for metallic paint? Would automotive touch-up paint work? I'm not sure what type of paint it is, I would need to do a test piece first.

I can't speak for metalics, but I have had success with plain old Rustoleum in spray cans over Koverall. My Spacewalker is painted with them. They have a metallic line as well but I have not used it. Don't know if there is a difference or not. When used on a gasser as in my case, no clear coat is required. On glow, I have heard that it is necessary but have never gone there myself. Do a search and you should find a number of threads discussing the issue.

Mike,
That is one good looking Spacewalker. I think I'll go with Rustoleum, maybe metallic or maybe I'll just go with the regular cans. It will take a while to cover the plane, I don't have a lot of time to build.
