RE: How far is your field from your home?
Other than the club field I belong to I go out in the country about 5 miles to an old graveyard. It has a nice landing area that some caretaker keeps mowed on a weekly basis.
Non of the residents there have complained about the noise so that makes it nice!
big dan

My field.....30 second drive from my house! Lord blessed me with parents that allowed me to put my runway right in the middle of their 300 acre property along with my house!!!

UVA Club Field is 26 miles one way. Outlaw Field (unused industrial park) is less than 5 miles round trip. The only problem with the Outlaw field is the curbs. They can be hell on an RC model!

I have flown off and on for 42 years at the same field not far from the house. I don't have to mow grass or share flying time with others.
There are no out of pocket expenses or club dues
But the ground is rough, sometimes the grass is a little higher than ideal. I use 3 1/2" wheels because of this. The closest trees are 1/4 mile to the East. Rarely have turbulent wind from the east.

13 miles and it takes about 25 minutes.
I forgot my transmitter at home one day. I drove back to get it...had fun flying
When I got home I was unloading the car and @%!@!% no transmitter. It was at the field on a picnic table.
About 4 hours flying and 2 hours driving.
I had a check list too. Damn

I live less than 1/2 mile from our field. It takes me longer to load up everything then it does to drive there. Our club ( River City Radio Controllers ) is lucky as that our field is in a state park ( Tom Sawyer State Park ) which is named after Diana Sawyers (national news lady's ) dad and it is in the city.

RE: How far is your field from your home?
Hello!
You guys have it lucky! On a good day with no traffic, I am two hours away from the only field available, and further from the only club!
If I forget something, I improvise. (That's why I bring a battery pack, soldering iron, glue gun, covering iron, balsa and other materials when I go flying!!!)

I'm more or less live near three flying area. To the east 9 miles is the Whittier Narrows Field. To the Northeast 21 miles is the Apollo (San Fernando) field. The Rose Bowl (electric only) is 12 miles north.

Nine thousand seven hundred and eighty six steps going over to the flying site and coming back Nine thousand seven hundred ninety nine steps! Wait a minut that can't be right! I will have to do it again, Darn one leg being longer then the other!
