Default Low end setting on Tower 61

Low end needle was removed and reinserted. Book says start with 3/32 to 1/8 space between the needle and spray bar. But the parts don't match the sketch in the book. The spray bar goes all the way across the carb throat and is evidently slotted on the bottom so there is no way to determine any clearance. So engines recommend to start with the end of the needle screwed in flush with the carb body to start. What do I do to ge a starting point for this thing?

Thanks John but the throttle is open all the way and the spray bar is easy to see. What next?

From the specs info on Tower's website for the Tower .61:

High Speed Needle: 4½ turns OUT from closed

Idle Mixture Screw:
Take carb out,
turn upside down,
line mixture screw up with the side of the small hole in the spray bar.
Tower really does give full info on most of their stuff, don't they.

Thanks, da Rock. Took carb offf and set the needle as you said. Was easy when you know how. What I like about this hobby. Always something new to learn even after 70 years.

There are two different designs on the Tower carb

The old ones have the space between the idle needle and the bar when at full throttle

The newer ones line the end of the needle up with half way across the notch in the spray bar when at full throttle

Adjusted carb per Da Rock and did an engine test at the feild this AM. Turned low end screw in another 1/2 turn and ended up with hi end needle set at only one turn out. Engine ran very slightly rich but smooth at 9,800 - 10,000 and idle at 1,800 - 1,900. Thanks again guys.
