How Do You Loosen Up Robart Hinge Points
I'm in the process of building my first Robart-equiped kit. Seems that these little (1/8") hinge points are pretty stiff. I'm used to Dubro standard nylon pinned hinges which literally flop over. I test fitted two pieces of 1/4" balsa stock (4Star60 aileron stock) with 4 pins. The hinged woods stays where you put it. I have tried WD40, Vasoline and Silicon gel. Most affective so far has been the Sil-gel.
What do you recommend to loosen them up before installation? After installation?
Thanks!

They must of changed them since the last lot I bought(6 months ago). Never had that problem, only getting a little glue in the joint after assy. Work the joints before use with a little lube on the hinge pin area only.

Well, Iadded 3-IN-1 oil. Best results so far. The pic shows a single hinge point holding up a chunk of 1/4" SIGaileron stock.
Is that normal?

I have used hundreds of Robart hinges, just install them and start flying, they will loosen up pretty fast, just keep the glue out of them during installation.

LW - the hinge pin halves are plastic and the rivet is metal.

I'd be tempted to say your hinges are faulty - I've used Robart hinge points in three planes and never had them do that before. I'd be tempted to return them for exchange if your hobby shop's fairly close.
A tip to fitting them (once you get them sorted) is to smear vaseline around the hinge pin area to stop glue getting into them.

I went back and read your first post, and you stated that the hinges were kit supplied, I have never heard of any kit coming with Robart hinges, I have seen Robart copies from Arf manufacturer's, but not true Robart's. The copy's that I have seen are white in color and Robart's are always gray, what corlor are yours?

Don't sweat it. If you can bend them, so can your servo.
To me, it seems that I would rather have a hinge that's a little tight than one that's floppy loose - after all, they are NOT going to get tighter as they get older, right?

The kit didn't come with any hinge material. These are LHS fare. 1st post was meant to mean that this is my first kit that will be equipped with Robart hinge points. The American language is soooo easily (ab)used.
Thanks for the feedback.

RE: How Do You Loosen Up Robart Hinge Points
Picked up more Robart hinge points. By and large these are much looser than the set I've been messing with. Time to cull the obstinate ones out and sell 'em on eBay (just kiddin' - or am I- emmmmm).
