Ovel guide wires

RE: Ovel guide wires
http://www.flying-wires.ch/flying-wi...ospect_en.html which is probably where the other gets his. Streamlined wire is the toughest scale part to find without breaking the bank. Some have silver-soldered 2 small wires to a bigger one and shaped the solder to look right and I think Proctor still has flat wire to simulate it. There are a bunch of companies that make the wire but they want to sell it by the ton; McMcmaster Carr has some of the flat wire but it can be hard to find in the catalog because computer wire is now called flat wire.

True scale "working" streamline wires in 6 different sizes custom made to order by

That text makes no since? If it's "custom" shouldn't any size be available? I do custom graphicxs and the size doesn't make a difference. Isn't "Custom" custom.
Gee, I make "custom" Star n Bars, but they only come in six sizes.
What since does that make?
As stated, LHS aluminum "airfoil" tubing with threaded rod at each end will work. For my 1/3 scale Gee Bee, I'll use electricians snake wire. I believe it's offered in SS. This particular model calls for "working" flying wires.
Once they are made, a "taper" can then be filed for the TE and the LE can be rounded.
Takes a bit of time, but nothing hard about that. [sm=bananahead.gif]

RE: Ovel guide wires
Each size has to have a set of die rollers made. The wire is then heated red and rolled through the dies; after that is done the threads can be cut, hopefully rolled threads. Roll too far or short and the wire will have to be tossed; I think each wire roll is a one shot deal. I'm pretty sure he does custom if you will pay for the dies; the guys at the world champs use him for their wires.
