I painted mine with Rustoleum brush on enamel, you know, the thick stuff that comes in a can? Make sure to use some kind of sanding sealer to seal the grain, or it will take a gagillion coats. I've found it's held up pretty well on mine.

that is a nice box! Why cover up that awesome wood grain? why not varnish it?
I saw on sigs site they have a gas passer field box... in the description they use "classy".. i dont know about you but there isnt anything classy about passing gas!

I used appliance paint and it has held up great. I sprayed my daughters pink and then sprayed Top Flite clear coat. We'll see how her's hold up.

I used several coats of polyurethane on mine, sanded between each coat. Highlights the grain and provides a glassy finish. This is one sturdy field box!

Oil Based Polyurethane is what I used
3 years on It still looks like this today
It's a Hobbico Kit
I singed it with a MAPP torch to make the grain stand out (try not to set it on fire), walnut stain and 3 coats Oil base Polyurethane.
