Default Mechanical Retracts - Any good

Gents,

I am in the process of finishing the design of my next warbird.
I am looking into the possibility of using a screw mechanism for the retract.

I have a few questions that I wish answered before I commit to it.

1. Does anyone use these in their planes?
2. Do you find the thread jams on hard landings? or grit?
3. Would you recomend them or just stick to Pneumatic.

I have considered doing that, BUT, if you calculate the number of turns of the screw to get the necessary travel in a reasonable time, the standard threads available are too fine.
