Which receiver are you referring to? Not all Futaba RX's the same in this respect.

Here is a link for reference: http://futaba-rc.com/radioaccys/futl26.html

It really should be sent in to Hobby Services and be tuned. It may be fine and never give you any trouble. But some day a guy could turn on a Ch 59 while you are flying and bye bye plane.

There is a red dot on the inside of the high band RXs. I used to ignore that and just yse my low band crystals, got away with it for a very long time then one day I got bit so I no longer do that anymore. Servo City sells RXs too cheap to risk it any longer.

When I used to race R/Ccars Italked to a radio repair guy about this. The radios and recievers are tuned somewhat to the specific frequency they come with. He told me it was better to keep the frequency close if Ihad to change. For example if you are channel 38 it was better to switch to 36 or 40 instead of switching to say channel 78.

Thats not true, atleast on the airplane side.

The receivers are center tuned to the band. When Futaba went the high low route they split the band in 2, center tuned the "low band" recievers to the middle of the lower half and the "high band" to the middle channel of the upper half.

Center tuned recievers you can change crystals to any channel in the band and its not going to make any difference, the closer you are to the center channel the "better" its going to be tuned but at the ranges we can see planes/helis I doubt its an issue.

If in doubt just get it tuned to the channel you're going to use. The components are the same so thats not an issue. Plus tuning usually uncovers any problems.
