Building Cockpit dash
Hey guys,
What techniques, material do you use to build the dash of a cockpit. I've heard some making aluminium bezels for the instruments and the use of g-10 for the dash itself. Any hints would be appreciated.

Building Cockpit dash
I made one using a J'Tec kit. For the dash I used a textured VHS video tape sleeve made of thin black plastic. It had a pebbled texture to it and came out beautiful. The J'Tec kits are really a rip-off (IMHO). You get some vacuum formed clear plastic bezels and some printed paper instruments for around ten bucks (50 cents worth of materials). They do take some work, but come out nice. You could make your own bezels by cutting aluminum tubing into thin rings. If you want a wooden dash, I saw a tip in one of the mags that suggested getting a color advertising pamphlet from Home Depot with the colors of wood stain and laminating it to make your dash panel. I really liked the Midwest Products pre-made instrument panels, but I don't believe they make them anymore. I think Horizon Hobby has some pre-fabs that are pretty nice, too.
Hope this helps,
