How Much is this Worth?
I have an original GP Super-Sportster.... it has the original K&B '61' motor in it... I flew it once... then hung it up... It belonged to my Father-N-Law... he bought it in Santa Barbara or Ventura, CA... way back in the early 70's (estimate) .... I'm thinking of selling it as is... no electronics... just the plane/tank/motor... the motor will run... it turns... but it takes 20% oil... and is too messy and too fast for me... I'm into slower stuff as I'm teaching my boys to fly...
So... How much is this worth...? Any help would be appreciated...
thanks, Brian

It's hard to say what a used airplane will be worth. Unfortunately, they never sell for anything near what we put into them. I would just take it to a club swap meet or auction and see what people are willing to pay.

There is no set price for use planes and engines, what ever someone is willing to pay. The plane is still made and K&B is still making engines. To someone like myself?? At auction I would go about $20.00 but to someone else it may go from for about 50 to 100. Just a guess but that's all it would be worth to me.

Sorry, Graybeard, not exactly true. The Super-sportster .40 ARF is still sold, But this is a Sportster .60 kit built I belive it was first sold in 1982 or 1983. So it is worth what someone is willing to pay but it is not the model still sold.

RE: How Much is this Worth?
The way I see a used airplane from back in the 70's is this
1 the tank and plumbing is no good
2 the battery is no good
3 the receiver is no good
4 the engine is questionable
5 the servo are questionable, I probably wouldn't use them
What's left is the airframe....and it might be questionable.....perhaps 1/2 to 1/3rds of todays price of a new airframe of compariable size.....
If you trust the servos keep them and reuse them.
Now as I said this is the way I look at a 40 year old airplane.....If you can find a collector...or a lover of the airframe then you can sell it as a classic
Good luck

As others have said, it won't be worth a whole lot to a buyer, and you would have to sell it locally because you can't ship something that big at any kind of reasonable cost.
Seriously, I would hang it from the ceiling in your boy's bedroom as inspiration to keep him in the hobby. Maybe when he is older he will have the ambition to get it going again.
Good luck

The SS60 kit is still available. GP brought it back, along with a handful of others, a couple of years ago.

Take the other man's advice and hang it in one of your kids rooms.....cleaned up it would be a nice "decoration" that they or even you might find interest in down the road. I wish that I had hung on to a lot of the things I have sold over the years!!

It's a shame but that's the nature of the hobby. It's not worth very much and I don't think anyone would consider it an 'antique' worth buying. Clean it up, hang it up and enjoy it's sentimental value. Or sell it to Graybeard for $20 and have him pay shipping!

I entered zip code 93454 in the earch box at http://www.modelaircraft.org/clubsearch.aspx and there are three flying clubs within 25 miles. All three have a phone number listed. Give them a call and find out if there are ever any RC swap meets in the area.
