Best way/Camera to video flying by myself?
I want to be able to video my planes flying. Is there a video camera I can attach to my ball cap or something like that? I want to buy quality equipment, so recommendations would be appreciated. THANKX in advance for your help. Charlie. . . . .

I would think a Go Pro would be your best bet. Some adjustment to get the camera to capture what you are looking at. The problem is small movements of your head will shake the camera quite a bit. I remember watching the Blair Witch Project movie and almost getting sea sick.

THANKX Scott, I just don't know how I could mount the camera. Charlie. . . . .

One idea comes to mind. In pylon racing we are required to wear hard hats when we fly, and some pilots mount a camera on their hard hat. Might look kind of funny to the casual observer, but it works.

The Go Pro has a helmet mount for motorcycles, bicycles, etc. I'm sure it would stick fine to a hard hat too.

I don't have a Go Pro but have looked at pictures. It would not be too difficult to make a mount for it; with vertical adjustment. Attaching to a helmet would work. Drill the helmet and bolt on or use two sided Gorilla tape. This tape is strong as can be.
Here is my helmet lamp light. Weighs a bit. Works well. It is from a time before these modern head lamps existed. I still use it at times for attic work. Powerful beam. A Go Pro would work. An industrial Safety Store will have a few helmets to choose from. |
