light weight putty for styrene plastic
Hello
Does any one know of a light weight putty that bond well to styrene plastic, easy to sand, shape, and paint, I need to fill in a small gap around a cowling to inside panel, though of Tamiya putty or Squadron, putty but my only concerns are adding to much weight to the front. Any other suggestion on light weight products that might do the job to fill would be great as well . Thanks any help appreciated David |

Squadron can't be beat for small gaps... if in fact it's a small gap you're filling... The Squadron putty is available in white(for over-painting light colors), and olive green(for camo and over-painting dark colors). It's sandable, blends great, and I've found it works very well when used in a few light applications. That's my experience. Unless you're building a micro...(if it already has styrene I doubt it's micro).. there's very little weight penalty. I can't think of a better putty. It works well with fiberglass, carbon fiber.. and of course styrene (ABS).. and a few other plastics and composites.

Thank you for the information on Squadron putty appreciated, I have now dry fitted the parts together with closer inspection I am now wording if the putty is going to be the right choice, completely, still very useful and will purchase some.In addition I may need a glue that I can uses as a filler , for the top part gap that will bond the two parts together for additional strength. I like Bob Smith super glue mix with styrene dust to create a paste but it is very hard to sand, I though of micro spheres, or micro balloons, but from what I under stand they were designed to work with epoxy and I find that epoxy tends not to be the best choice when bonding styrene plastic together hard to sand and paint as well ? Any help would be appreciated David |
Hi!
Epoxy and brown coloured micro ballons! The brown micro ballons are easy to sand using mold making epoxy! Never use epoxy glue! It's to "rubbery". |
