1.60 fx and perry pump ¿where to drill?
 

hi guys
where do you think is the best place to drill the nipple pressure hole on a 1.60fx for a perry vp 30 pump?
i really dont want to get it wrong

Do a search in the Engine forums... I think I remember seeing a post there (maybe from Bax in the O.S. support forum?) that had all the information, maybe even a photo or two.

I have that engine in a Great Planes 25% Giles. Instead of using the pump, I used large diameter fuel tubing, clunk line and large clunk (and stock muffler). Runs great....

With engine out of the mount, take off back plate and stuff in a small rag soaked in motor oil. This will catch drilling chips.

Drill the proper size hole in the side mounting ear (with the 2 bolt holes) right into the crankcase. Either side is fine for ease in hooking up pump line.

May want to use a vise and drill press, but if you're good, it can be done "by eye".

Tap the hole for the nipple.

Remove oily rag and double check for any drill chips in engine. Engines don't like metal chips much at all.

Screw in the nipple and maybe use a little thread locker.

Re-install engine and hook up the plumbing to the Perry pump.

Remember to use stiff tubing, not silicone fuel tubing to the pressure inlet to pump. Fuel tubing will collapse.

With the back plate removed, motor upright, from the rear, you can drill the top left screw hole all the way through, just make sure you use a small enough drillbit not to damage the threads. Flush the motor out really well to remove metal shavings and replace back plate using a 140rx pressure nipple in the top left hand hole.

You can also drill the hole out with the pressure nipple installed to prevent thread damage, as I recall, that's how I did it. Just use small enough drill bit to pass through the pressure fitting.
