RE: Your plane history, what models have you had?
Over the past 14 years....forget it, I don't have enough time to list them all. I'll put it this way, a couple of trainers, a ton of Warbirds and six aircraft of my own design, (all flew great). My latest self designed aircraft will be an XB-32 type flying wing with a 7 ft. W/S, retracts and flaps. The wing is built and sheeted. I merely need to finish the installation of retracts, engines, fuel tanks and radio gear. This plane has twin tails.

RE: Your plane history, what models have you had?
I'm too lazy to list here, sold over 100 here on RCU though. Generally I keep going back and buying some classics again not too thrilled with the new ARFs of the day.
I just picked up two of these from their scratch and dent sale, got to love the "kit" like quality these ARFs are, the fuselage is filled, sanded and painted. Imagine that. http://www.dldesigns.net/flyboy2.htm A smudge at best on the paint and the price is slashed $100. All the distributors need to follow this trend, please. http://www.dldesigns.net/scratched.htm Hope it flies as nice as the Dalotel. I like the Ultra Sports, Super Sportsters, Super Skybolts, Ace 4-40, Astro Hog, and even floating around with a Telemaster still. There are a lot of CMPro, RichModels, Nitro Planes, Lanier, and others I wished I never bought thinking price over reputation. Oops, forgot, airborne-models.com Rambler 45. I use an Irvine .53 on it. |

RE: Your plane history, what models have you had?
I started building in '53 control line models and '73 RC. There is no way I can list all of the models I have built. I have averaged 1-2 builds a year over that time. The ones that standout in my mind are the following:
Control line: 1. Sterling Flying Fool - Fox .29 2. Sterling Fokker D VII - Fox .29 3. Sterling Great Lakes T2A - Fox .29 (Still have it in flying shape) 3. Sterling Corsair - McCoy .29 4. Midwest P-39 Profile - Fox .15 (Still have it in flying shape) 5. Sig AcroStar Profile - Fox .15 (Still have it in flying shape) RC: 1. RCM Trainer 60 - Fox .60 Eagle 1 2. Southern RC Alley Cat - Enya .45 3. Jensen Wayfarer Bip - Enya .45 (Being refurbished after 35 years) 4. Jemco FW 190D - K&B .40 (Still flyable) 5. Jemco Zero - K&B .40 (Still flyable) 6. Airtronics New Era 3 - OS Max .25 17. Northeast Aerodynamics BelAir Biplane 40 - OS .40 FSR Currently building: 1. GP Ultra Sport 60 - Fox .74 Eagle 2. Jemco PT-19 - TT .42 GP ARFs: (All are flight ready including charged battery on trickle charge:D) 1. GP Piper Cherokee (2) - OS .46 AX and OS .55 AX 2. H9 Piper Pawnee - OS .46 AX 3. H9 Pulse XT 60 - OS .61 FX 4. BH T28 Trojan - OS .61 SF 5. GP Escapade - Magnum .46 XLS 6. Sig Kadet Senior - OS .61 FSR 7. GP 1.4 scale RV-4 - OS .75 AX 8. GP Super Skybolt - OS .61 SF Currently Assembling: 1. GP Revolver 70 - Magnum .91 4 stroke In the last couple of years, a number of ARFs caught my eye and I bought them. I am still building, doing a little every day but the ARFs I find to be of good quality, fun to fly, and cost half of what I would pay if I bought them as kits:D. Bruce |
RE: Your plane history, what models have you had?
Probably a 50+ stick/tissue rubber powered things.
Several tow line FF gliders of various sizes/types FF power - a Starduster 600, Witch Doctor 800, a scale Cessna 170 (.049). Got a hankering to scratch build the big .60 sized FF Satellite 1300 some time next year. Probably a hundred C/L things over the years, All scratch from plans or kits. I do have a Brodak ARF Smoothie waiting to be slapped together in the near future. The current thing I've been flying C/L with most of the time has well over 300 flights on it and could use some hanger time for rehab. R/C? Gliders, various ARF builds/repairs which aren't interesting at all. I'm designing an R/C combat plane that breaks the usual mold of fillament taped foam wing flying bricks that most of them are and should have much better aerodynamics (think higher aspect ratio Rush Nemesis or Buckstaff Mirage), and I just opened up the planset for DeBolt's "Chief" early generation pattern plane. |

Dad and i were on Team Satellite from the years 71-78 when we finally gave up FF Comp for a few years to get into RC again. nice to know you are a FF flyer. i did the 1300 in 3 flavors, one with original size stab with OPS 60 power. the second one was done with a K&B .41 built by Bear of K&B when K&B was really K&B, and the second version was built light, like 42 ounces with a 38% stab. the last version was Rossi .65 power and was an animal. too many planes to list here too, and i would get a headache just trying to remember them all, but i do know that i have pretty much burned out to the point where the 2 Jett powered models i have at this time are all that interest me because they scream, even if only at 18K rpm, but there just is not interest for me anymore. FF competition was and still is my passion, but without my Dad, there's no use even trying to fly at contests anymore. |
RE: Your plane history, what models have you had?
Actually started an inventory several years ago. The RC list is probably 99% accurate, but the CL and especially the FF list probably have left a lot out. The FF list probably starts around 1948, CL around 1949 or 50, and the Strader P-51 RC job I started in 1958 in 8th grade, and finished around 1982 I'm not a procrastinator, procrastinators are always in too much of a hurry.

RE: Your plane history, what models have you had?
[&:]
Out of almost 8 years of flying: Art-tech Wing Dragon (rtr) Alfa Focke Wulf 190 (arf) caught fire from no fault of my own. Goldberg Eagle (kit) retired due to rotted balsa, plane was over 15 years old. Hanger 9 PTS Mustang (arf and pnp versions) sold both Hanger 9 .40 J-3 cub (arf and pnp versions) crashed both on crosswind take offs. Goldberg 62 Skylane (arf) lost 2 years ago, servo failure at high speed. Seagull .90 Extra 260 (arf)- Lost in a serious crash this year. RIP I screwed up a "knife edge" at low altitude, and I couldn't recover as a result, a pile of toothpicks in a corn field. This list includes about 4 planes that were so bad in the quality department- I smashed out of anger, lack of patience and didn't complete. ( I'm honest, however not proud.): CMP/ Giant Scale Models Focke Wulf 190 (arf) Seagull Dual Ace 9 (arf) Kyosho .52 Focke Wulf 190 VQ Me-108 (arf) Aircraft I have now flying: Hanger 9 .60 Fokker DVII ( a highly modified arf) Will be 3 years old by December. E-flight mcx blade indoor helicopter (rtr) 3 years old by March. What I have on the bench now: A Discontinued Great Planes .60 Fokker DR1 (arf) I'm rebuilding the plane from the bones up- modifying and customizing the bird to be more scale like. This plane was reported to be over 10 years old. Pete |
