How to take piston off?
 

I tryed taking the piston off my vintage veco .61 off but the pulling the rod out but didn't work. Need Hep Please. And how do you take the bearings out? :confused: :confused:

I will make this quick(going to dinner).On back of crank case there is a plug with screw slot ,take it out ,hole in sleeve ,rotate engine till you see pin , use a needle in small hole in white pad and work pin out. this will keep you busy till I get back. max

Did what you said but their was no hole on the sleeve, I took out the backplate and saw the hole on the sleeve but it is not aligned to the hole on the motor? How can I rotate the sleeve to align to the other hole.

I`m back: Guess we`ll have to pull sleeve.If you don`t have head off do it now, put a propeller on,take a copper glow plug washer,bend it egg shaped,turn prop so piston is at bottom, drop washer down bore to top of piston, work washer into one of the square holes in exhaust port,use small end of washer(bend to fit) turn prop to bring piston up, washer by now should be caught in port. put on some gloves ,take heat gun & heat crank-case ,turn prop & sleeve should come up. DO NOT USE EXTREME FORCE!! will break ring. this usually works, may need to heat again!! Do not use any PLIERS any where on an engine!! They are used only to fix fence & take cap off fuel can !! Had to go work. Back and did what you told me and got it out, thanks. I took it out to rebuild it cause it didn't have any commpression but I don't know where to get the parts. Do you now where, Thanks.

Joe: This engine has what is called a Dykes ring, they don`t have much compression unless wet with fuel.Have you run this much ?Most likely it would need bearings & maybe a ring. I think you can get parts from Mecoa (RJL) in Cal. if not, bearings from can be had from Boca bearings. Adds for these are in rc mags. Watch out for ring as it is pined & easy to break. Did you get bearings out ? If not holler & will help. If all else fails I have a ring for one. What is a U.S. San Benito ? Good Luck >>>>>>>>> MAX

Joe: Just cked ring & is not Dykes , Thought 61`s used same type as 40. Check yours, Dykes will be at top of piston & has L shaped cross section, other will be down from top aways & will be square in section.

Found it Joe: The bar you have in red is called the baffle. Looks like the gray line you drew a ways down on side of piston is where ring is, A Dykes ring still goes around piston but way up at very top edge of piston. Looks like I have correct ring. MAX
