Run the antenna wire...where?
 

Just completing a World Model Piper Cub 48 (71” span), and I’m looking for the best way to run the antenna wire. Any ideas?

With that large a plane, I'd be tempted to run it inside the fuse. Tape the antenna to some soda straws from McDonald's and stick it in the fuse.

Yes, you can tape it to the outside....if your engine has the exhaust out the right side, run it along the opposite side bottom and secure it with some clear tape.

If you have any spare inner Nyrod material, you can glue it along the bottom of the rear fuse and run the wire in it.

Just my 2 cents here.
I made a very smal hole at the top of the fuse.
Ran the wire through and back to the top of the vertical fin.
It keeps it away from everything and in the clear :)

.On my Super Select 40 and my other Avistar.
I keep my RX vertical and wrapped in soft foam.
The antenna comes out on top where the dark coating is and from there I run it right to the top of the vertical fin.
Up and away from any metal objects :)

As long as you don't have any long metal pushrods in the fuse or metallic covering it is OK to run an internal antenna . It is out of harm's way and a whole lot prettier too. ;)

Quite a few folks run internal even with the metal p-rods but I would avoid that . Of course ,as always RANGE TEST .

On all kit builds, I use mixed drink or coffee stirring sticks.
These are actually very small straws. I bet most of your wives,
girlfriends, or both will use these when drinking mixed drinks.
They are about the closest thing you will find with out having
some thing custom made. They are cheap! (I bet that got your
attention!) About $0.70 a bag of 50++++++++++++. It's been so long since I bought any I don't recall the exact amount.
Suffice to say they last a lonngg time. There is one caveat.
What ever plastic they are made of, it rejects epoxy. Rather
than trust CA, I just make a small blob of epoxy and set the
tube in it, completely surrounding the tube. One last thing,
their I.D. is just big enough so in case of a vertical "landing"
the antenna will not feed back thru the tube due to
"excessive gravity".
