Engine mounting
 

Just purchased a chipmunk from nitro models

let me tell you that the instruction manual as hardly any useful explanation
and the pic. & details on the site are not truthful

- Pre-covered complete balsa wing (not sow )

Servos: 5 standard servos (Not Included) plywood only for 1 servo for ailerons

molding of the fuselage not straight (stab had to be glued with lots of epoxy to make it straight

plane not for beginner

but here is my question
I have a saito 82 and would like to know how to mount it

nitro sow it inverted....... not to craze to mount a engine inverted (180 deg.)
thinking to mount it at 90 deg.
or maybe 110 deg.

could any one help me

Hi Lou,

I have a ST75 in my kit built CG Super Chipmunk and have mounted the engine on its' side 90 degrees. I'm over mounting engines inverted. The side mounting works very well, the muffler exits the bottom of the cowl and the glow plug is easy to get at with the head exposed for cooling.

It's you choice.

what about 110 deg.
this would make the plane more balance sideway
and one last question
there was no dimentions in where to mount the engine mounts
my gess is center sideway
but where in height

Hi Lou,

So long as the thrust is in the centre it doesn't matter what angle the motor is at. I have a number of models that are side mounted and lateral balance isn't a problem.

I don't have the plans with me but I think there was right thrust and no down thrust. I will check tonight if no one chimes in. The hight is set so the crank is centred in the cowl.
