Nose gear brake
I used to fly about 15 years ago and have recently started getting back into it. Back then I bought a nose gear brake that was connected to the elevator (when you pushed forward on the elevator the nose wheel brake would engage). I have been told that they don't make them anymore, but I would really like to have one. Any ideas on where I could find one or does someone maybe have one in their stash of goodies that they would be willing to part with? Thanks

RE: Nose gear brake
nose brakes were used mostly foe paved surfaces a long time ago when engines like the k&b greenhead 45 would only idle at about 3,000 r.p.m, most engines these days idle in the 2100 rpm range but on a paved surface could still cause a problem slowing down.I have a perigee plan somewhere that show how to make your own brake out of music wire brass tubing and monofilament fishing line.

The Du-Bro units come up on ebay from time to time.

RE: Nose gear brake
There is a brake that fits on nose wheels.. I believe it's made by Ernst.
It tightens a spring around a hub that fits in the spokes of the nose wheel. It's pretty effective. I wish I hadn't sold my old Du-bro brakes... Sob! :) |

Those are Du-Bros also.
I have one left, and am hoarding it! |
RE: Nose gear brake
If you just want to avoid creep on idle place 2 washers made of rubber such as inner tube on either sie of the wheel and adjust your wheel collars so it just holds on idle.

RE: Nose gear brake
Rubber O-rings do the same and work well.

RE: Nose gear brake
I'm not wanting to avoid creep. I am wanting a true brake. I remember that it made it nice that you could check everything out without having to hold the plane and it was nice for taxiing.

Thanks Feihu! That will work perfectly. I have looked all over for the Dubro ones and can't find them. I'll just make my own from that drawing.
