Ultracote vs. Oracover
Hoping I will get a quick answer. Are they the same? If I buy a plane covered in German Oracover and need a patch, will Hanger 9 Ultracote match?
Thanks Ryan |
RE: Ultracote vs. Oracover
They are the same. In fact, Ultrakote has Oracover printed on its edge.

RE: Ultracote vs. Oracover
What do you consider fair? If you can obtain it and it was affordable I suppose it was a fair price. If you can't afford it and therefore don't buy it I don't suppose any price is fair. It's all about perspective.
Horizon is the primary U.S. dealer of Ultracote. You'll have to check your area for suppliers. |

ORIGINAL: Strykaas Where to buy either Oracover or Ultracote at a fair price ? I need a good address thank !! http://www.newpower-modelisme.com/mo...aea42e9f7ac91b I just typed oracover france in the search box at google.com |
RE: Ultracote vs. Oracover
Thank you for your input.
By fair price I mean price that really represents the price it should cost. See, I have bought an ARF, need a very small patch for it, and buying the necessary Oracover represents 10% of the price of the ARF kit. That gets me sick , so that I would be interested in buying it oversees (USA to benefit from the low USD or China). Any suggestion appreciated. To my knowledge, there is no place in France where I can buy it at a fair price. Resellers make a lot of money on this stuff, more than they should for plastic film. |

What color do you need? Maybe someone would be willing to send you a small piece if they have some left over from a project. Just a thought......sugarfox

I have no idea what it “should” cost. I know what everyone charges for it, and if I want it I must pay the price they charge. You’ll have a hard time finding it (from a US vendor) for less than Horizon charges, which is between $10 and $20 per roll depending on color. No one sells partial rolls as far as I know. Your best bet is to find someone who will send you a scrap. |
RE: Ultracote vs. Oracover
I guess if I had a problem buying a full roll to repair a small area, then I'd just put a piece of clear packing tape over the area.
Brings back by sheet rocking days. When we were hanging rock and we had a gap between sheets We would ask how wide was the tape. The standard answer was it came in 500' long rolls. If you want to fix yer ARF (Yuk) right then yer going to have find a friend with what you need or your just going to have pay the price. If on the other hand you would had constructed the model from a kit (a box of wood) then you would already have covering of the right type and color left over from the build. Just one of those things that is a problem with the new plug & ply world. |
RE: Ultracote vs. Oracover
What color do you need and how much?

Can you cut a piece off the wing that will be hidden by the fuse? If not put a few decals or stars or stripes out of vinal.

RE: Ultracote vs. Oracover
OK I'll stop whinning and buy a 2meter long roll at my local LHS. Thank you for your very kind proposals anyway, but I'll pay the price. Hopefully I will need that color for future models :)
