ARF before my Spacewalker kit,,, opinions?

I have been in (and out) of this hobby since the 60s. Most of my flying has been "tame" and high wings. I am about to start a SpacewalkerII that will be powered by the Saito 125 I bought a few months back.

I have always built my own kits and kind of sneered _ _ _ in a nice way (:-) at ARFs (mostly due to their quality of construction). However, the 4* specs are pretty much a match for the SpacewalkerII so I'm now considering buying the ARF 4* 120 before building my Spacewalker. The reasoning here is that I'll gain tne crucial low wing experience and confidence before launching the Spacewalker that I'll spend months building and be far more emotionally attached to.

Of course I'll probably end up with the shell of a somewhat battered 4* someday. Like others it'll end up in the rafters, alone and unloved (:-).

If you have some thoughts on my idea I'd be most interested in reading your opinions.

Regards
Don

You'll be surprised with quality of many ARF's today so I wouldn't let that hold you back. If you are worried about banging up the 4*, you could always go with a smaller, less expensive one. The 1.20 size sure does look cool though. Seagull also makes a .40 size Spacewalker ARF: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=SEA2050

Are you building the Sig Spacewalker kit? I've thought about that one myself.

I have the SpacewalkerII kit but have yet to start building it.

The idea of getting a 4*120 was because it has specs similar to the SpacewalkerII. I wouldn't particularly want to bang up the 4* but it really wouldn't bother me that much.
