futaba fasst systems

I would like to hear from some honest pilots about problems they are having with their futaba fasst systems.I see there has been some spectrum troubles coming from spectrum owners, and spectrum users seeing that there is problems with fasst systems as well.Come on futaba owners lets here about your problems also.I know they are there.Lets get it all out in the open so it can be looked into and hopefully get it corrected by the powers that be.

I have Spektrum, JR and Futaba 2.4 - no problems - honest.

The only problems I've had with my Futaba 2.4's is operator error.
Read the manual, read the manual, read the manual...

I have used both, have not had a problem with either but I prefer FASST. The Rx's are much easier to bind, and the the antennas are easier to mount.

And while I have not had any problems with Spektrum, I personally know people who have.

Nothing is perfect. I'm sure some people have had problems with Futaba's system but I have never seen it first hand and Futaba owners I have talked to say they've had great luck. After witnessing a few Spektrum issues and having a couple brand new Spektrum receivers bad out of the box myself, I made the switch. Like Minnflyer said, the binding is much simpler and receiver mounting is nicer. I think the menus and programming or more intuitive as well, at least in the 8FG. With my luck of course, the Futaba will crap out tomorrow but that's how it goes. You are putting your trust into a piece of equipment.

I did see this online the other day, thought it was funny: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1260333904055

This is very true of all of them. I see a lot of problems (some of my own included) caused by simply doing something wrong.

Futaba FASST radio user, 12Z, before that, 9ZAP. I have FASST installed in everything from park flyers to turbines. Easily a thousand flights. Not a single issue. The system is rock solid.

I have 2 Futaba 2.4 fast systems and they have been nothing but perfect. Good Luck, Dave

There where a few of us flying this past Saturday
and only one plane went in. Yep, it was using Spectrum (JR)
and the pilot said " I Lost It".

I fly Fasst 2.4 now for over 2 years and have had No problem

(KOW). Honest,

Bob

Oh yeah, the pilot that crashed said "What can I do" I said
get a Futaba radio. JMO

I have all three, Futaba, Airtronics and Spectrum and have had no problems with any of them. I did do some tests on each to determine which ones best handled low voltage and both Airtronics and Futaba did better than Spectrum. I'd suspect that Airtronics and Futaba will not brownout as soon as the Spectrum will under adverse conditions.

I also saw one go in Saturday too. The pilot determined that he had a faulty Spektrum module. He said he was going to order a non-Spektrum/JR radio as soon as he got home.

Chuck,

I wonder how many people re use a Rx
after a crash ? I'm not one of them however.

My friend said he was going to order a new Rx,
hopefully it will be a different make than his old
Rx.

I always send the receiver in for check-out after a major crash or I toss it if it if in obvious bad shape.

Been flying Futaba 10 channel on 2.4 for 1 1/2 years. Absolutely zero problems or glitches. Same with my son's Futaba 10 channel.

RE: futaba fasst systems

I think the only problem futaba had was that they reused a few digital transmitter codes on earlyier units and recivers could be confused if you had 2 radios with the same code but that has been long repaired.

we had a newbie that had all kinds of problems with his dx unit but most of them were self induced and some we had no idea could happen. He used thread lock on servos which seems like a plausible idea that the veterans never thought of doing because going into the plastic is like using a thread locker. the thread locker made the splined post on the servo break. We scratched our head on that one. He also melted the reciver, we never got a truly good answer on that one everything was set up correctly, someone read something in the manual about not wrapping the reciever in foam so that heat could disapaite but it never concerned me to follow it up and it hasn't happened to him again. I felt sorry for him having so many problems out of the gate but he stuck with it and didn't get discouraged, a lesser man seeing these problems probably would have.

Are you emplying we aren't honest if we don't have problems with our Futaba 2.4 systems? I've been flying both 7 channel and 8 channel 2.4 modules in my 9C for 3 seasons with absolutely no problems. I have a new 8FG for this coming season and don't expect any problems.

RE: futaba fasst systems

Sometimes people with strong brand loyalty will gloss over issues with their chosen brand. It's not that the OP is implying anyone is dishonest.

I've only read about two issues with FASST. The first was the GUID problem with the 6EXs that rlipsett mentioned. The second was the 6014 receivers having failures in hot weather. Hobbico's response to the first issue was impressive, to the second... not so impressive.

The thing about 2.4ghz setups is that people sometimes get sloppy, thinking that the system is fool-proof. Battery requirements are a lot higher between the computerized receivers and more powerful digital servos. The days of flying all afternoon on a 600mah pack are gone. One thing that hasn't changed is how eager some are to blame their radios for bad setups or uncooperative thumbs. :D

RE: futaba fasst systems

I am currently flying as a club instructor with both JR/Spectrum and Futaba 2.4 systems on a regular basis. All have flown well without any problems except those induced by the operator usually improper understanding of programming and system loads.

I now have a different criteria than what I used years ago with 2.4 vs. the older systems which I still often fly. That is if an airplane has more than four digital servos I convert to a much higher battery capacity and 6 volts for my system. This is to avoid possible lockouts due to the higher drain on the batteries when most to all servos are activated at sametime during certain flight regimes.
