Plan needed for portable foldable field stand

Can anyone help me locate plans for the field stand that is made of wood and has two work surfaces that fold into aA frame . the top accomadates a plane . I have searched the forums and have seen pictures of this and a number of flyers have inquired about plans for this but the treads stop there .

Black and Decker Work Mate 500 with simple tee frame clamped in the jaws.

The Workmate 500 is a two wheel dolly when folded up. Unfolded, it is a X frame table

No plans, I kind of eye-balled the first leg and made the other three identical. Made to get the best out of 1" x 10" planks (or 3/4" x 9" in measured parlance). This is handy as all get out and folds flat to take to the field.

If I were to do it over I'd lower the horizontals to accomidate .40 size fuselages with strap-type gear.

Ya got that right w8ye

I apologize for the off topic question - Spook has a tail skid rather than a wheel. That a grass field thing?

RE: Plan needed for portable foldable field stand

there are no grass fields in AZ

Might be gravel?

Thanks guys The Spook is a lightly modified Pheonix Strega for the RC Pro warbird racing in the Silver class, its served long and hard for three seasons untill currently I had to stop traveling due to health problems, The tailskid worked fine on pavement or gravel/compacted earth. The airplanes were never taxied but always used throttled up race starts and all landings were done dead stick on purpose.

Here is also a pic with my gold racer a severely modified Strega with A YS 110 that we did run with up to 45% nitro at times.

These types of folding field stands we first used almost exclusively by the Q500 crowd but later adapted by many of the warbird guys as they are extremely versatile. Perfect height for working on you airplane from a lawn chair or in my case a wheelchair.

I now use them for club events where we may not be able to use the assembly tables due to changing the pit configuration for certain types of event.

Yea - didn't check the "Kingman, AZ" on your profile. Raking your yard has a different goal too. :D

Back to the tail skid - how well does it work on the hard stuff? My field is concrete - my thought is that it would wear down pretty quickly.

RE: Plan needed for portable foldable field stand

Seamus Yes they will wear and at about the same rate on earth or asphalt (never been on concrete) But it lasts for quite while perhaps a full season but the airplanes were not taxied. race start takeoffs typically use no more than ten or fifteen feet of runway and the landing runouts went maybe longer once the skid was down.
If you taxi its much better to use a tiny little wheel.

You show a serious piston in your picture; I hope it is not from one of your plane engines.........:)

SeamusG 07-25-2010 09:32 AM

RE: Plan needed for portable foldable field stand

Ithought it was a trash can turned upside down. That looks like a chunk of rail sittin' next to it. I'm guessin' the piston's from a train diesel.
