Can you mix Micro-balloons with canopy glue?
 

I have a small side buisness building airplanes for local club members and I've been quite busy. I'm building this electric 3-d Cosmos by Cermark and I noticed the belly fuse on the wing doesn't fit very flush. I talked with the owner and the number 1 thing he pounded in my head is to watch the weight, and try to be light with the glues and modifications. To fill the gap on the belly pan, could I mix micro-balloons with canopy glue to fill the gap and trim tape over it? Has anyone experimented using this method? If so, please respond.

You can mix them with pretty much anything but keep in mind, canopy glue doesn't harden for sanding very well.

I've tried. I wanted to mount the canpoy and use the micro balloons to hide the edge of the canopy from cutting it. It worked somewhat. Like Gray said, it won't harden for sanding as well as epoxy.

I would carve a balsa shim to fit the gap and use that for gluing strength, then use a light balsa filler for the cosmetics.

I use Smart and Final light weight spakling paste found in most hardware stores for most filling required. The tub it comes in weighs more then the paste. Open it up before buying and make sure it is fresh, should be nice and smooth, a bit moren then tooth paste. Fill in the gap, let set over night, sand then hit it with CA. It hardens just like wood. If you need it thinner then just whip it up with some water. I even use it for filling in dings and the little hanger rash you get on a build before I cover. Good stuff to have on hand in your shop at all times. If it hardes up too much over time just add water.;)
