Out of interest we measured about 80 amps this morning on new flight power EVO 3700s which suggests about 2200 watts of power. Probably means you could get away with 7S system and save a few ounces. With a lighter motor wouldn't even surprise me if you could do it on 6S and save dollars and weight. Having said that I am busting to fly again as soon as the weather co operates

Dave,

Thank you for the info. Would you please post some pictures of your engine install, ESC and battery placement for those who might be interested to do it your way. Also are these the 25c batteries you were testing?

Thanks a lot,
Reza

Rezagh

Assuming the mods let me do it the following link has various photos

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=783489

The photos dont really show the motor/esc placement that well mainly because I ran out of time to take them when the install was happening. For the Hacker C50 there is a standard motor mount available from www.espritmodel.com amongst others that bolts to the firewall. Not much work really. The ESC is velcroed to the underneath of the fuselage motor box and the wires poke through.

So far I haven't cut any cooling slots in the cowl and the motor felt fairly cool after the first brief flights. It will need monitoring.

Congratulations on your success,

It looks like you're getting about 10% more power than predicted with the FlightPower 20C batteries. I assume it's because you're using 25C batteries instead, and the lower internal resistance is giving you higher voltage.

I have got the airframe assembled on the 69". I ordered the OS 120 AX and bisson Muffler,
I also ordered 4 HItec 5625MG servos with a 6volt output of 131oz. and a 2000 mah 6volt
NIMH RX pack. Will the servos and battery be ok for this plane?

I had 6 5645mg servos around but they were used in offroad cars so i said new plane and
new engine I might as well buy some new servos also. and the 25's were a bit faster.

I also have to say great job on the instructions REZ. It was a joy to assemble, and the plane
is very well built. I also have one of the bent landing gears but I did some modifying to get the
camber correct and left the wheelpants off until I get a straighter gear.

Thanks
Chris

What wing bags would work best with the plane?

A saito 180 come's in at around 34 oz w/muffler, would this engine be to heavy for this airframe ? I think the os 120 ax weights about 29.? , as anyone put in the saito 180 in this yak ?

You obviously have never flown a Saito 180powered plane.
The Saito 150 is way too much for this A/C; the 180 on an airframe this light is "aerobatic suicide"

The 180 is a full load for the 73".

I have not flown the A/C but from what I've red everyone seems happy with one of the following:
OS120AC; YS 110FZS; Saito 125.

These engines are within the correct weight and power range. At 8.5# it's more than enough for vertical and overall performance the A/C is intended for.
A little further back in this thread Rezagh compares the performance of the first two and comments on the third.

Edit addition: go to post 159.

Hi !!!
I've been following this forum since the beginning even though, I didn't have any Quique model aircraft yet. Now, I've just received mine and I'm so enthousiast about it. I got the OS120ax brain new engine and will put two futaba s9351 and two hitec 5645MG into it +1 for the engine(don't now yet). I was glad to see than the new aileron hardware set was include in the package. I can't wait to start building it but with the weather we have here in Finland, I can wait the spring to start flying it on our field. The runway we have on the ice is pretty short and snow and ice around it pretty hard if I have to do a quick landing.
I also have two question for you guys....:
On my s9351 servo box, it says Ni-Cd use only. Does that means I can't use Ni-Mh at all ? Why ?

I knew about the problem of the landing gear before I bought the plane hoping that the error would have been corrected by now but it seems That i got the wrong one. Who do I have to contact to get this problem fixed ?

Thanks a lot to all of you for your comments who help me decide buying this plane and thanks a lot to the builder of the plane.
Regards,
Rafale-pj

my yak flies like a dream. you have an F3A plane and if you want to go crazy, simply switch and.... i never , repeat never, had an airplane so amusing !!! it 3des so happily!!!! and you never feel anything wrong !!! thank you quique this is really a great plane. []unique issue the landing gear: too narrow and wheels are not perpendicular to the floor. anyway it land so slow you barely need wheels !!
ciao quique e grazie !!!!

Guys,

Here's a new video of 69" on YS 1.10.

http://www.rcmodelaviator.com/Videos/Yak69_YS110.wmv

If you go to my website www.RCModelAviator.com you can watch the OS 1.20 and YS 1.10 performance!

Thank you,

I am in the process of ordering parts for this plane and already have two HS5645 Torque servos. Speed is .18@6v.
I am wondering about getting two HS 5625 Speed servos for ailerons. Speed is .14@6v.
I have never put different servos on a plane before, so is there any purpose to it? I would think that the torque servos should be for the rudder and elevator because they get more torque load, but speed is also a necessity.
Am I over thinking this?

It is about 7-3/4'' wide(at the fuse), and 9'' long.

Reza i have seen your video with YS 110, and it is simply stunning !
you are a great pilot, indeed, but i have a saito 125, coolpower, apc 16-6 and my engine is by far weaker than your !!! i think you have 1500 2000 rpm more !!!! what a ballistic engine !!! i can pull out from an hovering, but slow, slow, and your plane is fast !!!! so fast !!!! i have only 12 flights on mine, but i do not thing it will improve now.
because ys is heavier than saito, have you had trouble about cg ? have you had to move back the battery pack ?
thank you francesco
