New QQ-Yak 54, 85cc
Hello All,
I just got a very exciting news from Quique to share with you all. This is something that has been in the works for sometime but I wasn’t allowed to let the cat out of the bag until we are in production. Please find below the email Quique sent me. All I can tell you couple of months ago he called me right after he did the maiden flight and he was absolutely impressed! He made me so excited about this plane that I wanted to take a ticket and go all the way to Ohio just to get my hands on the stick :-)
Hi Reza,
I have some very exiting news about our new QQ Yak54 101 for 85cc engine. I have been flying and testing and we have it ready to go! Let me tell you a bit about our new 101.
All this project started since I run for first time the DA85. I was so impressed (and I am) with the weight and outstanding power of this engine that totally give me the desires to have a new Yak for this engine. I have also flown other engine in this class that I thought was time to design something new for them. It is not news to say the DA85 will almost put as much power as the DA100 with significant less weight. So this made me to think a bit different. Make a 100cc size airplane but with the adequate nose moment in order to reach the right balance without having to add weight in the nose or running "everything" in the front or using super long engine stand off. The result of this principle is what we call Yak54 101. Simple 101 inches of wingspan. I base the design in our very successful Yak54 102". Basically it is same airplane shape with some structural changes to take the new engine and the extended tunnel for tuned pipe.
A new engine box all the way to the front to mount the DA85 without stand off. The new cowling features a new mounting system on the side to properly hold the cowl. It has a new tunnel for tuned pipe and long enough to run a Greeve if it is wished. Includes also our "plug and run" pipe mounting system. Also we feature a taller landing gear for more prop clearance in case of pilot want to perform the always fun Harrier landings.
Wing area is 1,960 in2 and weight is 24lbs 14oz with Greeve tuned pipe. That weight includes, 4.5 Tru-Turn hollow plate spinner, Mejzlik 26x12 prop, MtW 25mm drop off header, Greeve tuned pipe, JR 8711 servos 4 ail, 2 elv., 1 rud, 9100 Spektrum RX, 2 Duralite 1,500mha Lithium Manganese, 2,300 NMH 6V. battery pack for ignition, 2 JR match box for ailerons.
About the flying only I can say is fun, wild but with incredible precision and as always zero no minimum coupling. 3D is absolutely amazing, full control at all range of speed, very stable and predictable.
We include our Kimball scheme and some details in the cockpit including instrument panel and the black paint to give a nice finish. As all our airplanes we use Ultracote.
About price will be same as our 102" $999.95 and will be available by end of May 2008.
If weather allows me I will do a video so you can see the airplane in action.
Thank you very much and have fun!
Quique

I vote for the Brio scheme as an option! Sexy lines and vivid colors that break in wild patterns. It looks to good in the air and breaks it from the other companies with plain colors and simple, curved graphics. I cant think of any other scheme that is as bold as the the Brio.

I too really like the Brio and original QS scheme. Problem is or maybe I should say trend is every one of us would like to have something a little different than others. Too many times I have seen people that love the airplane and the way it flies and all the good stuff but just won't buy one due to many of the same scheme being flown at the same field.
I think Kimball scheme looks really awesome and at the same time has tons of room for most to do their own theme and make it look different than others.
I too love the visibility of Brio and QS schemes in the air but I think this is a needed change
Thank you Adam,
Reza

It won't work! Sorry! However if noise is an issue you can consider Jtec new mufflers. See below http://www.jtecrc.com/snufflermufflers.htm
Hope this helps if noise is a concern.

Reza,
Is it still looking like the end of May for these to be available?
Is there a waiting list and if so how long is the wait?
Would I be able to get one out of the first shipment and do I need to call to reserve it since I don't see it on QQ's website?
Is there any video anywhere of it yet?
Will the Slimline pitts muffler clear the firewall or do you need to cut the firewall to get it to clear?
Is the production version going to require those small standoff's? DA says no standoff's with the 85?
Thanks

RE: New QQ-Yak 54, 85cc
Hi camss69,
I will have a video posted in 2 days.
The stand off that Quique used can be eliminated it. They are just washers but DA approves using those and there won't be any warranty issue. They are very short.
I will also have the manual in a week but I don't know if there was any cutting as QQ installed tuned pipe in his. I will double check.
Planes will be shipped in a week. They will be here by first week of Jun. I think you will have no problem getting one from the first shipment but would be great if you email me your name, address and phone at [email protected]
Thank you,
Reza

I got in touch with Molly today and she has my info so I guess I'm on the list.
Looking forward to the manual and the video, I'm guessing the assembly is the same or very similar to the 102"?
Thanks!

Reza,
This plane will be wicked on a tuned pipe. I'm running a DA85 with a KS1090 and it's spinning a Mej 28x10 at 6500 on the ground warm. Not sure if that big pipe will fit - it looks like QQ is using a Greeve pipe..
A pic of the tunnel would be nice - the interior shot looks like there is plenty of room.

Thank you Ron. That's exactly what I had in mind when I did the video and Quique when was flying it. It's about showing the flight envelope, speed and power of an airplane combo!
