RE: R/C Skydiver Rally in Muncie
Hi !
Thanks for the nice welcome.
@Paul:
The P51 rally sounds very good. If you can take some photos it will be perfect ! I think the time is a little bit too short about planing a trip in the states. Ever more i think about the rally in muncie i be more fascinated by the idea to take part there. Maybe it will be posible in the next year!?!
@Jules
We had luck at the trip home and arrived in a good time at binzen. It was a really nice weekend in Neustadt. I can`t expect the next year and the first rally in Walldorf. It will be a pleasure to see you and Theo there. I hope Stefan will come also with you.
See you next time.
Thomas

RE: R/C Skydiver Rally in Muncie
Hi everyone,
Two more weeks and the dudes will be diving.
Just thought I would let any new skydivers know about the R/C Skydiver contact list.
It is a list for contacting other R/C Skydivers that I have been trying to keep updated at the rally's.
We had several new guy's at the Somerset rally that I didn't get info for.
If anyone is interested in getting on the list send me the following info:
Name, address, phone#, channel#of plane, channel #of skydiver, and e-mail address.
I will send a copy of the list to anyone that supplies the info to be put on the list.
Also of there has been a change in anyones info send it to me so I can keep the list updated.
The list is done in MS Excel.
Thanks,
and see you at the rally

RE: R/C Skydiver Rally in Muncie
As of today, Intellicast.com showed Muncie's weather as:
Friday, scattered thunderstorms, low of 43F.
Saturday, sunny, high 65F, low 43F, winds 8mph (?)
Sunday, sunny, high 73F, winds 5mph
Tick, tock.... Is anyone planning on test flights Friday? If so, what time?
Dave

RE: R/C Skydiver Rally in Muncie
We had two great days of flying. I can't emphasize enough how great it was to meet more of the "Skydiver gang!" The weekend was marred by only the loss of one complete airframe (I did not witness the crash, but heard something of it, sorry for your loss). One skydiver took the fast lane down into the corn - after many many volunteers' help wading through through the "maize," the diver was finally recovered.
Several divers (including both of mine) had the occasional line-over or worse spin situations. Sadly, a few "did not opens" happened, but I purposefully didn't take any "corpse" photos. [&o]
One diver, however, caught a thermal so strong that it was ascending while in a full spin. When the fight was won, he had traveled quite a good distance, and came down (the consensus was) in a soyfield that was the EXACT color of the camoflage parachute. Searchers yielded nothing, as well as a full scale powered parachute pilot. We miss you, Little Juan. Hopefully the fieldowner (who is RC plane friendly) will be able to find him.
I guess I should get to the goodies- Jules finished in first place with a five jump score of 410 for Saturday alone, I do not remember what his Sunday score was, but it was enough to cinch the victory. Huge congratulations from all of us, bravo, Jules. There are two photos of Jules where the whole crowd got a good laugh - after an especially centered landing, as we were all clapping, the wind picked up and guess what? The chute opened up and dragged his jumper slowly all the way out of the circle! I hope it counted anyway; the jumper was on his back for several seconds with the chute fully collapsed. (Be sure to note the seventh and eighth photos in post #34!)
Second place was Gary V. Gary started the weekend with several back to back high scoring landings that made the rest of us consider packing up the planes early. His diver performed with probably the fewest malfunctions of any there, and his approaches were very consistant. Good job, Gary.
Third place overall was Juan Fernandez. Little Juan had put in a lot of airtime with big Juan helping him at the sticks, and it was obvious with his performance this weekend. It was wonderful to get to meet you, Juan, as I built my first jumper from your plans for Little Juan.
There was a trophy (no kidding) given post-mortem (AWOL?) to Little Juan for the longest jump.
I know I'm forgetting alot, but I'll add that Wes came in second (for the day) on Saturday. Good job!
And a shout out to all the fine, fine drop pilots that managed very large RC planes in random take offs and landings, mixed in with jumper pilots on the field to retrieve their little guys. Not the first tense situation occurred all weekend, and the ugliest landings were soft simple nose overs with no prop breakage, thanks to Wes, Gary V, and myself (good job guys, down stick down stick down stick...)
Everybody present this weekend were so helpful to one another, it was amazing. Imagine a swap meet/airplane repair shop where everything's free and the work's done for you. I can't thank everyone enough who helped me keep my divers and planes going.
I'll post my photos in a subsequent post, just in case my img tag thingy blows a screw. Had a blast, good times, big thanks to the AMA headquarters for hosting again this year.

RE: R/C Skydiver Rally in Muncie
Hi Dave,
We made it home, all safe and sound.
It was great seeing everyone this weekend, and also meeting some new people.
It was great seeing Jules again and meeting his wife Marion, met DiveBomb's dad George, also met Juan for the first time this weekend, and as always seeing all the familiar faces from past rally's.
Atleast Wes and I made it home this time with the plane parts still in the same place as when we left.
One regret I have of the rally is not getting video, it's hard to fly the plane, fly skydivers, take pictures, and make video.
I guess we need to all pitch in and hire a video crew for a rally, I have tried, unsuccessfully, I might add, to get Inside R/C to do a segment for their show. I guess there are just bigger fish in the sea to go after than us.
Keep the post coming, Lets here everyone's comments from the Rally, good or bad.

Dave:
Here are two more pictures of our event and I found them in my telephoto section in my camera
they are of Jaun setting altitude record and headed for ( mexico ) he left this norning for Home and he wanted me to tell everyone who was there that this was the best rally and competition meet he has ever attended. And that he will be back next year if anyone want to try and take his altitude and distant record from him that he will be happy to let them try. His acculades and praise was given also to the people who worked to make it happens.

Hi Ya'll,
I agree with everything said above about the rally. It was a great competition and Dave summerized it so well. It was good to see the all you "old" guys and the many new ones attending including Dave & his dad from Ky and Juan Fernandez all the way from Washington state. It was also a pleasure to see Jules again and meet his loverly wife Marion. Mary & I took a few video shots that I put together and posted on RC Universe at "Muncie Skydiver Rally in 2007.Wmv."

Guys, that is Great! news to hear Juan has been recovered.
I flew the jump plane that hauled Juan up when he headed south and kept on going. I had time to land, refuel and watch the last 10 minutes of his flight.
It was a sad few minutes when we were all watching as Juan drifted out of site and someone started whistling TAPS.....[]
It almost brought a tear to my eye....

Greetings to all:
It took me a little while but I got home safe and reasonably sound. Just want to say that I had a great time and can't wait to go back next year. I enjoyed meeting all of you there and want to thank Guy and his crew for doing a great job of hosting the meet.
I also want to thank all the folks that helped in the search and rescue operation for Small Juan and especially Jim (AKA: RCflyfl) for taking the time to look for and finding my wayward jumper. As a side note: Small Juan was also lost at the Las Vegas RC Skydiving Rally for six months before he was found. Don't think I'm going to take him to anymore Rallies.
I would encourage anyone that has an RC Skydiver to include plans to attend the next Muncie Rally. It is just alot of fun and very enjoyable.
Juan

RE: R/C Skydiver Rally in Muncie
Hi,
I'm new to RC about (10 months) and am now flying a Funtana 100 with ys 120...I have always been interested in RC parachuting and I have fabricated my own parachute and drop system but it was rather shoddy and of course not steerable. I'm looking for information on plane types and where to acquire these Divers that I see in your photos. No one in my club has any experience so I'm kind of in the dark here. Any info on the drop system and other parts and pieces would be appreciated.

Gene,
Check out page 2 of the RC Skydiving Forum and there is a listing of RC Skydiving manufacturers and suppliers. I am using a Senior Telemater with a Super Tigre 2500 motor to drop my jumper. My jumper known as "Little Juan" is homemade from my own plans. The parachute I am using if made by Bob Deadmond, goldenknight1 on this forum. There are other posting on the manufacturers list. hope this helps you out.
