I am a newbie to RC Skydiving and I am building my first drop box for a Robbe Charly. My dilemna is that the drop box must fit up into the cavity of my drop plane that is also used for a removably bomb bay. If I mount the drop box on the bottom of the plane there will be very little ground clearance for Charly. The part of the drop box that houses the chute must fit up inside the fuselage bomb bay opening. I need to mount the release servo on top of the drop box that is recessed into the fuse. There is not enough room on the side of the drop box to mount a servo between the drop box and the interior wall of the fuselage. I have an idea how it can be done, but I figured someone might have encounter this situation. A picture or two would be nice.

I have spent the last week off and on working on ideas and building a drop box for Charly. I am a bit surprised that there has been absolutely no activity on the Skydiving forum. Not a single idea shared for a drop box. Below are pictures of the drop box I built to mount up into my BTE Flyin' King. The pin holding Charly's velcro restraining strap is released when the servo on top of the box pulls its 4-40 rod up and the rubber band extracts the pin. Seems to works well. Time will tell.

Hi Airbusdrvr,
I have a Robbe Charley and I am just finishing my Flyin'King. I started on the 'King before I saw your post. My Charley is very old, about 15 years I think. He has had a few dirt dives but is in reasonable condition. I have converted the arm servos to digital metal gears. I broke a lot of servo gears with the plastic servos. I also have made a cloth parachute bag instead of the plastic box. I use a seperate servo to Pull the ripcord pin. It pulls a rod that sticks out of the back of his neck. I haven't tried it yet but it seems to be reliable. The old Robbe method was very unreliable..

I am building the drop box so it can be removed. My 'King is electric powered.

I will let you know how it goes.

Here is our drop boxs, we have sold tons of them. People are using them for all sorts of divers, not just ours. We put three under our jump plane, that way we can haul up 1 , 2 , or 3 jumpers and keep it balanced out.

How big is your drop box. It needs to fit into the fuse of my flyin king. The opening is 6"x4"/

Please don't take this post as saying not to buy edge pilot"s box. However, it is reasonably simple to build a box, and attach it the Flyin' King. Just use the gear channel of your transmitter for the release command. Mine worked flawlessly every time. The only cost was a spare used servo, very inexpensive materials and a bit of time. I built mine so the parachute was in a box that was inside the plane. I have seen several drop "box" configurations that drop the skydiver with the parachute pack on the outside and the front of the skydiver up againt the plane. That might even be a simpler design.

I am a little lazy and the ready made box looks good, But with the servo on the side, I am sure it won't fit into the 'king fuse. I will make my own. Thanks for everyones help.
