Jumpin' From a Trainer....
 

Ok.... I have a 1/4 Scale Piper Cub with a drop tray on it..... I have a Jumper I got from Dave while I was on deployment.... But I can't jump and I can't fly the drop plane at the same time..... ????????? Has anyone seen or been able to make a Drop tray that would sit on top of a trainer and use the wing mount rubber bands to also hold the jumper upside down on the top of the trainer??????

I'd like to go to the local field and ask one of the guys there to pull me up.... so I can jump... I could use their existing bands and slip the drop tray on top and plug into a spare channel. Head up and he could do a half loop or a roll and drop me off..... Has any one tried this on a trainer? 40, 60 or 90 size?

Dave,
I did use a Sweet Stick 60 as a jump plane for a long while. I used a strap mounting underneath the fuselage. At that time my jumper only weighed 1.5 lbs. The plane got him up but it took a little while and couldn't make any sharp turns. Hope this helps you out.

It does a little, Helps me figure the size bird I'll need to look for... I am wondering if anyone had been able to mount a jumper on the TOP of the wing.... I guess at a minimum it would need to be a 60 size bird.... I'd like to get to the field and ask an average flier without any special gear and I could plug into his Rcvr and attach the drop tray on top and put my jumper on his back on top of the wing and then Mr. Average Joe could help me jump at the field without any special mod of their bird.

I a have friend who used to drop me from a senior kadet that he had with ailerons and he was using a five channel futaba in it. I made a strap system to hold it on the bottom fo the plane then I bought a six inch exstention for servo on drop box and he would plug the drop box into the retract pin and when he dropped me all he did was flip the switch for retracts and OLAH my jumper was on the way he had a os 60 schnurle engine on it and it was plenty of power. I hope this will help you out.

it has been done, but it really is hard to keep flying with that jumper on top. it disturbs the airflow.

That's how I was thinking his orientation would be... And I understand what you are saying about being hard to fly.... It would totally disturb the air flow over the tail. :( Ok, I'll keep on thinking........ :) Thanks.

I'm new to R/C skydiving, but I've been flying for years. I recently built my own chute and jumper.

I bent a piece of spring wire into a shape that gets rubber banded onto the top wing of my dad's (I'm 45)
electric duraplane. The part that sits on the wing is a square "U" shape, then theach end bends straight up from the wing for a couple of inches, then back for 3/4", then up again for 3/4". The jumper's upper arms then rest on the horizontal parts. His feet straddle the fuselage, just past the trailing edge of the wing.

This has worked quite successfully for us. I fly the plane and have found that I have to make sure to keep the speed up by no climbing at too high a rate. If I do that, it does fine. To release the jumper, I do a roll.

The only time I've had problems is when his chute opened just after take-off! [X(] It sent me straight into a giant snow bank. Fortunately, the snow was soft!

Now, if I can just figure out how to get the chute to inflate, I'll be doing well.
