World Record?

Is there a world record for the most rc skydivers in the air at once?

RE: World Record?

Hi Guys!

We did have a mass drop at one of our club flyins a few years back and if my memory is correct, we had 11 in the air. Paul R. was there with his Wilga so he may remember the exact count. That was before 2.4mh too! I don't recall seeing any photos of all jumpers in the air.

Making a mass jump gets complicated and always winds with two or more guys trying to fly the same jumper for awhile until they figure out somebody screwed up! I was lucky enough to be invited to Top Gun for 3 yrs in a row (2001-2003) and jumped 6 R/C Skydivers at each days noon Demo using two Telemasters at first then going to two Stingers the last year. We jumped 4 or 5 times during the week. At almost every jump, we had someone screw up even with a detailed pilots breifing before each jump. Murphy's law prevailed!!!

It would be interesting and also a lot of fun if we tried to set a record, or beat someones record, at the Columbus Rally next year. What about it guys? We keep saying we are going to do but it never happens!

P. S.

Murphy's law is something to think about if anyone wants to join in a mass jump at Joe Nall this year!!!!

There has to be a photo of one time in Germany at the DM that there where 22 jumpers in the air at the same time , only I can not find it !

I finally found a photo ( thanks to Theo ) to proof we had 12 jumpers in the air at the same time , last year 2009 at the DM in Heringen Germany .

At the end of every DM German championship there is a mass jump .
The number of people participate in this mass jump is variating every year .

So 12 is the number to beat !:D :D

Lundy ; enlarged the picture on fax viewer and that had to be a great sight, I only have one question was there a traffic jam at the landing site . ha ha ha

Thanks for the research and photos Lundy, well we'll have to see if we can top that at our event in September/October this year!! WOW I think 22 jumpers must have been a great sight. Can you perhaps remember how many planes were used?

We did 6 jumers at once last year, the number of divers has grown and is still growing here in South Africa. Our website will be up soon so watch this space!

Bob I have to agree, even enlarging the photo doesn't give it justice, I think one had to be there in person to get the whole experience:D!!

Like Jim is saying ,mass jump are complicated and always two or more guys trying to fly the same jumper ,
and only when its to late they figure out somebody screwed up , and then its off in to a beautiful sight seeing tour [:'(] :D

On the landing site its nearly impossible to get to the target to many people blocking the circle ,
and getting a 1.5 kg jumper smashing in to your head is not the right way to get a hangover .[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]:D
Most of the pilots land on the runway ( keeping the planes waiting to com down )

Would flying them up in a Full Scale aircraft and throwing them out the door count? :D I have that capability!

Sounds good Mike - Might want to add some excitment to it
Take all radios and put them in a pile and go for them just as soon as you see them drop - Would make for some real excitment:D

RE: World Record?

Some years ago we where invited at a fly inn of real airplanes and skydivers for a demo .

This is not a joke this is a real story !

One of the our club members ( Benny Gijbels ) gave his rcjumper to a real skydiver for a ride sky high ,
The big guys take the rc diver up in the air and exit the plane taking the rc diver with them ,
at 1600 feet !! they let go the rc diver and ? in the hectic of it all forgot to turn on the receiver !
By By that was it, its never bin sighted or found, 700$ gone withe the wind ! [sm=crying.gif]

Mike how are you gone solve that tiny problem ?:D

I did a demo with my RC Skydiver at a RC Airshow in November 2009. There were real skydivers also doing demo jumps, the one guy saw my diver and wanted to take it up and do a jump with it, immediately the issue of it needing to be switched on came up!! He promised he would not forget as he does demo/flag/stadium jumps for a living!! My diver, Skydiver SAM, hitched a ride in his flag bag.

I’m glad to report it work perfectly!! He went up in a microlight, jumped, did his freefall, opened his canopy, released my diver, it freefalled, I deployed my canopy, he then did a spiral down to fly right beside my canopy so I imitated all his moves with mine! He swooped in and landed right beside me, I then followed with my version of a swoop and landed right at our feet!!

Here is a link to the photos if my upload doesn’t work still awaiting the video: http://microlighters.co.za/viewtopic...8f410244e450e3

Enjoy!!

And now Broodwa has taken to the skidiving himself. Only he is alowed to control himself.

So it seems like 12 is the official number to beat.

Goldennight, you will have to roundup some jumpers and join us in SA. Just fly inn and we will sort the rest.

Come for the worldcub and stay for a rally.

Cheers
Riaan

RiaanLR we R.S.A. guys are going to put the record for most RC Skydivers into the WGR books. Lets team up and get it in there.

RiaanLR 01-30-2010 03:35 PM

RE: World Record?

That is the plan to do it later in the year at Oudshoorn. Broodwa's home field and the best fly-inn SA has to offer.
We will orginise well for this event.

Greetings
Riaan

i was one of the pilots flying a drop plane. we were in the air with 7 or 8 dropplanes at the DM.
trying to get close to eachother is difficult..... :-)

allways nice to see so many parachutes in the air.

this season we will do a mass jump again, so give us the numbers and we will beat this.... hahahahahhah

Hi Pieter,

The Red Bull diver is my custom creation, but unfortunatly we are not allowed to sell it like that, I was working with permission from a Red Bull representative to do that scheme.

The only agreement was I can do demo jumps with it only, but not allowed to re-sell the scheme. All the paints used was the actual Red Bull official colours used in the automotive industry, I can do you any other kind of colour scheme, you can PM me and then we can see what we can do for you.

Regards,
Fanie

RE: World Record?

ah ok,
red bull is hopeless at the moment with giving permission. tried it here sometime ago with a drop plane. no luck...

RE: World Record?

Yes tell me about it, I also tried to get permission for a porter like the one in their Red Bull hangar, but was declined.

I was approached by one of their people a year later when they saw a video clip of my diver on the internet, that was just luck, thats where I got the permission for the colour scheme, but thats where it ended. If your not a super/extreme athlete your out of luck to get anything out of them. Sad but true.

Good looking diver, looks like one of Theo chutes?

pieter 02-09-2010 12:30 PM

RE: World Record?

yes it is one of theo's.
ordered a new one for this season. was third in the DM with this jumper.......

Hi Pieter,

Is the diver your own design?

I would love to come and attend the DM masters one year but the ZAR is weak against the Euro!! If any of you guys are interested to join us in SA for some fun in September, our spring month your more than welcome. Oudtshoorn my hometown hosts the biggest scale fly-in in South Africa, about 150 pilots and about 290 scale planes, big small we have them all.

Its a relaxed event so all welcome, many tourist attraction to see for the family, world famous Cango Caves, Ostrich Show Farms, Cango Wildlife Ranch where they breed Cheetah's, White Bengal Tigre's as well as crocodiles and some great Wine estates to mention but a few. Oudtshoorn is a tourist town so accommodation is in abundance and we can organize a package to suit your pocket.

Just as a matter of interest our twin town in the Nederland is Alphen aan den Rijn.

I include a pic of my diver, will have our website up soon.
