Default Caster ZX1 Build

Hey all, I recently acquired a partially built caster zx1 buggy and just purchased an SH .21 nitro engine for it. I've yet to get a pipe for it, and im also curious what a good radio is for it. I'd like something with faster response than my old Futaba T2PK am setup.

I've never build a nitro car before and I am coming out of the old skool age of electrics with wiper controls for the speed..... Tamiya Astute style.....

Any info you guys may have that can help me out with the build would be great. Id like to put a good pipe that'll get the most power out of my engine. Whats your recommendation on a good two channel setup thats not going to break my bank? I got the car for almost free and its brand new never finished, so I want to keep this build on the cheap.

Default real progress

I spent the better part of my evening getting the buggy assembled. Just need to add the pipe and other small components to finish it up. Then its just a matter of adjusting it when its radio ready.

Default body work

Im almost done with the paint job. Ive had good luck in the past with acrylic paints for detail encased in lexan racing finish. I ran the poo out of my old buggy and the finish never flaked. Im going to fetch me some copper colored racing finish to fill in all the panel areas and seal the body. Ill keep you all updated with how the finish holds up as I run it. Im paintng the wing to match. It wont be that gnarly dayglo.....

Thank you! Im hoping it holds up really well because I sure do love painting them up. My last one was a simple jaws and stripes paint job but it never flaked a bit even being ran a lot. If this holds up well I will be pleased. Im hoping the final lexan paint will protect the undercoat from any fuel residue. The gold rimmed paneling that appears black will look like weathered copper

Default my current roadblock

Ok so heres my problem. In my past experience building my old tamiya astute i never had any problems with parts fitting together. This kit however, when i went to assemble the throttle and brake rod assemblies. The hardware specified will not fit through the bushings supplied with the kit. Is it common practice to have to modify hardware to make things fit? This is my first high end kit and i want to do it right. Please help me out!

Edit: man...... i could wring mh friends neck i got this from lol. Im going to have to disassemble this thing down to step one and start over again. No oil, no grease, no threadlocker and I found out where all the "extra washers" go... and the car would probably explode if i tried to finish and run it as is.... so here goes. Ill post pics of the build after I get it all disassembled.

Default Steam era paint job

Aside from a layer of protective undercoating and removing the tape on the windows, this body paint job is about completed. I managed to find a stash of the old pactra paints at my local hobby shop and got the pearl copper I needed. The body is painted entirely with paintbrushes.....

Im going to paint the dayglow yellow wheels to match. I am almost thinking of painting up my a arms and other plastic components on the body to match the buggy even better. Maybe even weather the shock springs with a little paint to make em look a lil less "new" looking.

As for a paint report, the pactra race finish melts into the tamiya acrylic paints. When I did my previous body with testors acrylics for details it didnt do that. That finish after about 10 years started to lose a little hold but never flaked off. The tamiya paints are way stickier, and the pigments are seemingly compatible with the pactra

Default what lubrication?

Ok so heres whats throwing me a loop. When i went to the hobby shop to get some supplies i askd what lube i should fill my differentials with. He said theres different weights and you use three different weights one for each differential? If thia is true then why doesnt my instructions say anything about oil weights... help me please! I have silicone shock oil but i highly doubt its the same stuff. Also for greasing the gears outside would any grease work or does i have to be a special kind?
