I am looking to get back into racing 1/8th scale electric buggies. I have an opportunity to purchase an Xray XB8E 2015 version, slightly used for 2 races, just needs controller and receiver for $550, or am looking at the Mugen MBX7R eco new kit. I guess my biggest concern would be availability of parts for the Xray, since it appears as though they did a lot of changes for the 2016 version? What do you guys recommend? Thanks in advance.

I've been racing my XB8E 2015 for about 18 months and it's served me very well, more info here:
BUILD/REVIEW: XRay XB8E - 1/8th scale Buggy & Truggy forum @ URC Forums

In all that time I've only broken 2 parts... IMO it's one of the most durable platforms you can find on the market which in turn means that parts support should be around a very long time, especially since they recently released the GTX8 which is based on the 2015 spec. Mugen is also fairly popular at the club in my area too, but they tend to have weak arms and will break more frequently. I'm actually getting ready to sell my XB8E soon and could give you a better deal... if you're interested let me know and I'll snap some pics of everything that I've got... willing to do roller/slider/Rx Ready/ or RTR

Buying a used race grade is definitely the way to go when first getting started... you won't have to chase setup and will save a ton of cash up front. Most folks in my area actually prefer the 2015 Spec as it's far more stable than the 2016 spec and easier to drive, really a perfect platform for an entry level driver. I'm finally ready for a little more aggressive setup and planning to buy a Tekno soon.
