do not use WD 40 it can harm the filter.. If you are desperate you can use transmition oil, or silicone oil, recommend 1k and above, or any thick clean oil.. Not cannola or olive oil ... lol

use some proper filter oil dude
the cheapest way to buy this is get a big bottle of filter oil from a motocross shop as you will get way more oil for your money than buying smaller bottles of RC filter oil

yeah you need proper filter oil.I also bought some silkolene motorcross filter oil, ÂŁ4 for 500ml. Also a good tip is to get a small plastic sealable bag (the ones with the snap-fit plastic strips across the top) put the filter in (after you've cleaned it) and then squirt in some filter oil. Seal the bag and squeeze the oil into the filter. A nice light coat is what you're after. Remove the filter and your done..........and save the bag in your toolbox etc for the next time.

If you guys can find it over there try "No toil" air filter oil, they sell it at the Motorcycle shops
a bottle will last you a life time in RC use, I use it for my Dirt bikes also
The best feature of No toil is it's biodegradable and washes with warm water and a good grease cutting soap, I use simple green, No harsh chemicals needed, it cleans the filters like new.
good luck

Anyone ever try using K&N filter oil? I just oiled mine up last night with it, wiped all the excess off with a cloth towel, we'll see how well it works and for how long. I ran the car an hour ago and it still runs perfect, so atleast we know it wont csause the lean/rich condition as mentioned above. I figure if the K&N works perfect for full scale automobile off road applications, why shouldn't it work on my RC? and the aerosol spray is WAY more convienent when applying it to the filter.

Yes, u can wash it with right cleaner and no, u shouldn't do so and should replace with new one. Not kidding. If u use two stages filters and care enough not getting dirt onto the inner filter, u may wash and reuse. If u use one stage filter, 99% chance is that dirt is still trapped in the filter no matter how hard u wash it. I did an experiment about squeezing a filter in a bowl of clean water which had been hardly washed, I could still find some tiny hard material released.
Depends on kind of filter oil u used. Kyosho oil can use denatured alcohol, Mugen oil can use industrial gasolin.

RE: can i wash my filter for my hyper?
Hmm
Am i doing it wrong? I just dip my filter in petrol!!!. Squeeze all the juice out. Change new petrol dip again. Squeeze out.Repeat till no more fine particles are leftover
let dry for 24 hrs!.
Apply filter oil.
So always good to have spare filters while waiting for the one to soak the filter oil or just waiting for the other to dry out.
Never had a problem plus it get's all the smallest dirt out.
Any comments?

What kind of filter do u use, one or two stage? I won't reuse the one stage filter not even to say cleaning it. For two stage filter, I will see if any dirt leftover on the inner foam after use. If found, no reuse. Although u can have petrol or gasolin or alcohol to clean, be attention that will casue kind of filter foam deformed. So, I rather use household detergent to wash my filter, which is for heavy oily. Play a save game or safe game, it's all up to u.

If you feel safer replacing the filter every time, that's all good, and no doubt guarantees the filter is clean as new. But maybe it was the way in which you cleaned it (or tried to) that was the problem and no the ability of the filter to come clean.
That's is the beauty of the No Toil Oil, it can be cleaned with warm water, so you're not dunking it in that dirty gas or other cleaner, that gets dirtier and dirtier every time. You can keep adding clean soap and water until the filter is "Completely" clean.
Then when you properly re-oil the filter, you are good to go
You are free to disagree, but if I can trust this stuff to protect the $2k + engine in my Motorcycle. I think I trust it to protect my $150-$350 toy car motors too. If it wasn’t safe to clean and re-use filters, No one would, and the companies would make bank on selling pre-oiled filters, but they don’t, do they? No the sell filter cleaner an oil, there is a reason they do.

i usually just replace my filter....cleaning your old one can trap dirt in it and damage a motor

I agree with Scale .. When you clean a filter properly its fine.. i replace the outer filter every race, in a week i could go through up to 6 filters, can get expensive if you buy new ones every time. K&N make a really nice cleaner and spray pack, two cans one cleans the filter and the other oils it. awesome stuff !!
and with running your filter under fuel it will expand which sometimes is good, it can help release trapped stuff in the filter, just run it under water after and it will return back to its original shape..
