WS7II farting and backfiring
my WS7II has just under 3 gallons through it, and has run strong strong strong. something strange has happened, the thing started backfiring and spitting crap out of the pipe, and refuses to run. the carb is not responding to needle adjustments (lean or rich), just runs VERY rich for a few seconds then flames out. at first i thought i had some fuel that had gone bad. the engine has tons of compression, i changed glow plugs, used brand new fuel, the problem persists, and i don't know how to troubleshoot the carb. anyone have a suggestion? thanks

Remove the carb, remove all the needles, give it a thorough inspection (o-rings, etc)...if you can't see anything, try someone else's carb...if it's still rogered with a 'known good' carb, then its time for some disassembly, at which point, I would be lost! Good luck with it...

Have you used any silicone RTV on the car at all?
If this gets in the engine it can play havoc with glow plugs...
Just a slim shot...

RE: WS7II farting and backfiring
mmm. I have got exactly the same with my novarossi 421b and shall be watching this thread with interest. The thing with mine is though if I can eventually drive it through this then it all of a sudden picks up and is fine until it has idled for a couple of secounds and then is away again. Needle adjusting just doesnt do anything. I have noticed that when letting off the throttle, 50 % of the time it has a very high tickover which sounds like it is running weak. mmm.

my S7 was doing this and i didnt know i had a short plug in it? check the length on it. all the fuel doesnt fire and it makes a pop like a backfire. the long plugs are only about 2 threads longer.

RE: WS7II farting and backfiring
It sounds like an air leak somewhere if not a bad plug. Check fuel tank then lines then the engine. I had a pressure line rub against the flywheel and caused that result. I had a slight crack in a tank and it also caused that. All those things will cause the irregular/lean performance. Hopefully it is not the carb or a bearing. Try shooting some engine cleaner when it is idling at the carb body(away from intake), front bearing, head, back plate or at any suspected leak area. The engine cleaner will stall out engine and show general area of an air leak. nIt could be that the in tank filter may have vibrated loose and be sucking air. Is there any air bubbles in the fuel line? Hope one of those may help you.

yes madlad, it sounds like we are experiencing the same thing. i pulled the needles out of my carb, o-rings look good, and the needles appear to be intact. i am stumped, but my new v-spec is running nicely. any other suggestions? thanks

i pulled the flywheel off, no evidence of a front bearing leak, no collection of moist dirt around the backplate or carb either. this is frustrating.

Are you using genuine RB Plugs?
I know the RB motors are not good on any plugs other than RB (sometimes you can get away with it, but often they just wont run right)..
