Default Sportwerks .26 or OS .21 RG

I'm looking for a new motor for my Jammin X1 CR. My local LHS track accepts the .26 in 1/8 buggy. Basically the track is medium size with one long straigt and alot of jumps and turns. Which of two motors would you recommend?

Thanks.

They are both good -- but if your track will allow the .26 go with the Mach .26. We have alot of both engines at the track I run at and the .26 is much faster and has tons of power!! AND you just can't beat that price either!

i work in a hobby shop and it seems that i am always putting in rg's into mayhems with blown mach .26's. The mach seems prone to early death, while the rg seems to last forever and always hold a tune and is regarded as one of the most reliable engines. However, the .26 is going to give you quite abit more power i would imagine.

I've gone throught 4 mach .26 engines and they have been bullet proof for me and the other people who have ran them. I've gotten 5-6 gallons out of them running a slightly lean tune and they held the tune great I rarly needed to touch the needles even when seasons changed. I polished the last one and it got a little more overall power with a lot more max RPMS.

The Sportwerks .26 is the same exact way only its more of a top end engine. You need to wait a little bit for the power to come in (depending on what pipe you have and what carb insurt your running) and it carrys more power at higher rpms then the mach .26. You also get 3 different carb insurts.

The O.S. RG is a little slow but its great to learn on and you can still be competative with it. If you run a JP-1 pipe and polish the ports this engine will scream beating the mach .26 by a little bit if the mach isn't polished. This thing takes porting very well too... we had someone grind the hell out of one and it ran great untill it died after 10 gallons of fuel went through it.

Either one is good. [8D]

I was the one modding the OS and it ran great.

I love my SW .26 engine. It has all kinds of low end and rips real good on the top too. For 130$ bucks I don't think you can beat it. Mine holds a tune great, I swap it with my Mayhem Pro and My Mayhem ST. It pulls hard in both. Whenever I practice at our track, someone always asks me what engine my mayhem st has in it....I smile and say STOCK SW .26 [8D] All they saw is "wow" lol

The SW .26 is a great engine especially for the price . The SW .21 has even more bottom end power and more max rpms. I love the one I'm racing. It doesn't have the torque that the .26 has so it wouldn't work as well in the mayhem ST (truggy ).

Any SW .26 I've driven always lagged on bottom and the power came in at higher rpms. What pipe are you running DodamissC?

the SW 26 is a good motor for 2 tanks of gas. Our LHS has a lot of suprised Mayhem RTR buyers as they are come back needing a new motor in 3 months. the OS 21 will last 10 tanks or more and is about the same price and is a set it and forget it so you dont spend all of your time fiddling with the needles.

The best motor is the .21 OS VZ. its tuned and ported and will blow the doors off most of the 26s out there but its 300. It also will last 10 tanks or more.

Ok I know you made a mistake and used tanks instead of gallons . But I used to work in a hobby shop as well and know of people who run the SW .26. They get 5 gallons out of it no problem and it will blow the doors off of a lot of those $300 engines with a simple polish job along and the 9mm carb insert they give you. Also its only about $50 to get a new piston and sleeve for the SW .26 compaired to what about $120 for that O.S. VZ? I don't know the price for a piston and sleeve for the OS VZ so forgive me if its not $120 but I can garentee you its a lot more then $50.

What exactly do you mean when you say "polishing" the SW .26? Thanks

They take the engine apart and polish the sleeve, crank and connecting rod. You wouldn't believe what a diffence that makes! No cutting or porting --just polishing makes a huge difference in top end speed. Several of the guys here have done it.

I have not done this process but I do know that Super Dave and SManMTB have several times -- so it would be better if they answer. I do know they use their dremel - but not sure about what polishing compound.

Have you looked at replacing the piston and sleeve? Not sure what they cost. I have an RG and it is a great little engine - but here in the states you can almost purchase a new one for a little more than the piston and sleeve cost.

Any polish that works with the metals the engine is made of. Aim for something that goes well with copper/brass since that's what the sleeve is made of. It should also work for steel. No need to get anything for aluminium, nothing made from it will be polished.

Transfer port + piston!

Boost port + piston!

This is worn out.
