Default Novarossi Engine

I had pretty much decided to get a Sportwerks .21 (my budget is < $200) when a few people recommended a Novarossi R21BF (Rex) or T21BF (Top). Sorry I don't mean to drag this topic so long. I just want to get all the best advice I can before I decide on a purchase. Would would be better between the Sportwerks engine or the Novarossis (they are all about the same price)? Which would produce the best results on a small/medium size track? What is the difference between Rex and Top?

Thanks.

For small/medium sized tracks the 21BF is a good choice. It's a 3 port so it has awesome low end. I have the N21BF version and she's a screamer.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif] Never had a sportwerks before so I can't comment on that.

You should already know my opinion so I'll stand by the SW .21. Tons of low end power and a very reliable engine.

I can't say anything about the other engines but you wont be dissapointed with the SW .21 I can promise that.

The NovaRossi engines are good! There really is a lot of good cheap .21's around. The SW.21/SH.21, NR 21BF, OS .21RG and one I actually prefer over those are the Thunder Tiger 21B-R.
It fits into your budget. It's a good solid engine that sells for around $109.
It's very much like the OS RZ without the tweaks. For what it's worth, this engine was designed by the same engineer that worked for OS for many years and then moved to Thunder Tiger a few years ago. This engine has nearly the same dimensions as the RZ does. The sleeve and piston are the exact same size and design and will actually interchange between the 2 brands. The only real difference is the 21B-R has a square rod like the RG and the crank isn't relieved, it's the same as the RG crank. This engine doesn't make quite the power that the RZ does but it's really close. But it will smoke an RG on any given day and do it about 30-40 deg cooler. I run them in my Truggy and it rips. Rebuild parts for it are readily available. The p/s set is only $60 and a new rod is about $20. Hard to beat. Most of you don't remeber the OS RZ...it's now known as the V-spec but is a bit different now.

It's the same as the T21BF or R21 but it's the novarossi version. I personally like the novarossi versions. I got it shipped for about $187.

I prefer NovaRossi's myself. But you do have to pay a bit more.

I might give the TT a shot. That page says it comes with pullstarter!? I don't want that. Is it a typo?

SManMTB -- let me know if you get that Thunder Tiger engine -- I have read good things about it -- not sure where (probably here).

Dr. Gonzo --- I see that you are from Owensboro, KY --- do you know a family with the last name of Carden?

Gonzo -- I have watched Super Dave beat much more expensive engines with his SportsWerks 21 -- granted he is a very good driver -- but that engine really has some power!

Just got the novarossie 2001 21BF Nice motor it is going in a hyper 8 and I was wondering if you guys and gals think the moding the motor by fusion motor sports will make that big of a difference in the power. I have heard mixed reports about this motor. They say it is junk and some say it is great and it has all the low end you will ever need. And yes this is my first nova, My other 1/8 buggy as a OS 21VG really good motor. Any help will do please, Thanks Eric

I run with the 21BF -- great engine. I have an 086 pipe on it with a werks conical V medium length header on it and it sceams on a medium size track where the longest straight section is about 150 feet long!! Oh and I use O'Donnels 30% too. It is a great engine! The low end ndl is very sensitive so just turn it in very small increments. For $180 (or what ever it cost now) and it being a Novarossi you can't beat it! Go Italian and you'll never go back that is for sure!!!

my brother had both
If you like SW .21, MAKE SURE IS V2.....very fast , faster than the 21BF!! BUT you will not see the real power at least 1.5 gallons or more...longevitity??????????

The NOVA 21 BF, low end is very fair for the price, smooth......life is longer than the SW .21

Also check out the entry level 3 ports RB and the AXE ROSSI MAMBA if you plan to buy something from AMIAN, they have the coupon codes.....

Hope this helps...

Thanks guys I have about two tanks threw it and 15 min at low RPM. It does not say that much in the hand book that came with it so should you just start leaner her out tell you get the best speed and did you have to adj the low end or just the HSN??? I love my OS 21 VG it was easy to break in just ran two tanks threw it at idle and watched the temp and then just stared leaning her out and she has been screeming ever since, I am running at the track tomorrow and will be breaking her in some more today and then slowly around the track? Thanks for the input great thread I think this is the first time I have made a post and not got every nuckle head out there talking crap about the product. Eric

yep the SW 21V2 is a rocket all right! One of the guys at the track use up a couple of them and did very well with them...you are correct about the longevity -- he said that they did wear out a little on the quick side.

I think I ran the 21BF engine as rich as I could keeping it around the 220 degrees mark for about 5 tanks and then started to lean it out a little at a time with each tank after that. It is a great engine. If you are running on a small to medium size track it is all you really need I think.

Ran the 21 bf at the track all night tuesday and it gave me nothing but trouble can't get it over 200 deg and it won't go more then 3/4 throttle and then it bogs down. Any adj on the LSN makes all kinds of diffrence the HSN is at 3 turns out and it seams when I try to lean it out so the motor just get's worse, Any help would be great maybe start all over can someone tell me what the stock settings are on the LSN and the HSN please? As it is now it goes and pretty good to but you can go full throttle or it craps out 3/4 no problem at all. Thanks. Eric

start with the LSN flush, the HSN 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 turns out & also check your idle screw & that it's only open 1 - 1.5mm at idle.

LSN flush with the coller right? And the idle screw is okay I have the slide at 1mm. And the HSN turn all the way in and then out 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 right? My LSN is pretty far in there and that is how it came from nova that way, so back it out flush with the coller and go from there right?. What kind of temps are you getting ? Thanks for your help Eric
