Default *Official Sportwerks Turmoil Thread*

I know this buggy isn't out yet, but talk about what you think about this new buggy.

SWK1155 - Turmoil Pro1/8 4WD ARR w/.21 & Pipe - $579.99

There will be an ARR kit with, and with out the Engine and pipe.

And when someone gets their hands on this buggy, please tell us about it.

I like the CVD boots. Even if a CVD pins comes loose, it won't be able to come out all the way. But make sure to check the pin from time-to-time, because it may be loose, and you don't know it. And thank god for CVD's all around. They are way better than dogbones.

I also like how Sportwerks decided to make stronger Shock towers, and the shocks actually come with the adjustable shock collars, and they also have the shock boots.
And the now-included ackerman steering rack is also a nice touch. So are the improved Chassis stiffers. The ones on my Mayhem bent before. The new motor mount is nice. I like that it is one piece, because it is stronger, lower, and stiffer.
I like that it now has Machined aluminum inner suspension mounts.
And the new Chassis could make a huge difference in handling, if it is good. It moves the diff and motor up some more. And I like how they lightened it.
And they actually decided to include some aluminum clutch shoes.

All in all, I think Sportwerks made some extremely good improvements on the existing Mayhem(though I think they didn't have to rename it), and I think that this buggy will be a far better racer than the mayhem.

Tell us what you think of this "New" buggy, and what you like, and dislike about it.

That still doesn't tell you how it handles . Its deffinatly not going to be a turd and if anything they just learned from the mayhem so it should be a pretty good buggy.

I think the mayhem caught a bad break. A lot of people (mainly racers) seem to hate them and the name "mayhem" doesn't exactly apeal to racing. They did make changes to the buggy and the new name might give them a clean start with this buggy.

Yeah. If people hear "Mayhem II", or something like that, they are cautious, because the Mayhem got a bad name with racers. So with the new name, the buggy starts out with a clean slate.

I think I'm going to buy this buggy.

I wonder why they went with and arm mount like the old GS storm has? Hing pin blocks inside the arms and with no locknuts ontop.

I race the mayhem every weekend and think it's a great buggy. It's typical of companies these days to re badge the same product and they do it for profits and not because of product image. Sportwerks can care less about the mayhems reputation among racers and I can care less about the turmoil.

If you have a mayhem pro and buy a turmoil you should have your head checked. Look at the benefits to cost ratio. What problems are you really having on your mayhem? None that will be solved by the turmoil. Will the FCG win you races? No and most will not even be able to tell the difference.

The Turmoil is due out in June, it's not been released yet. It was just announced a few days ago.

after checking the pics and specs on it, I basically have a turmoil minus a couple of upgrades, its the same damn car, just with upgraded parts

I love my mayhem, but I wont be buying a whole new buggy, you could just build one for cheaper

It's got a different chassie so it will probably handle very different. How can you say it's the same car? It's similar and looks more like an SP1 to SP2 upgrade on the Kyosho.

Yep. I like the way it handles the rough stuff more than the way the sp1 does, and the steering is also better. This buggy has a hell of a lot of steering. It isn't as twitchy, and it's much smoother in the rough stuff compared to the sp1.

I like the new 5mm shock towers too. Way stronger. Not to mention the shocks being 3mm longer than the ones on the sp1.

No, I just got to test both at the track, both owned by the same guy. He had just changed the rear shock oil, and that's it on the SP2, and the SP1 had new shock towers, and a different front diff. And it had upgraded chassis braces. But they both had P5 engines, granted the one in the SP2 was newer. The SP2 has so much more steering though. I haven't driven one yet that has that much, and compared to the SP1, the sp2 isn't as twitchy. I also saw an improvement in the rough stuff handling.

Overall, I would get the SP2 even if it were 100 dollars more expensive than the SP1, because it is just a better handler. I haven't driven a XB8 yet, but my next buggy may be a XB8r, because it's a nice buggy for an excellent price

I pre-ordered the Turmoil Pro before they hit the shelves. I didn't have a Mayhem but I did get the Mayhem ST and waited for the Turmoil. Here are my thoughts and something that might interest some of you.

<I posted this yesterday on another forum>

I have raced this a couple of times now and so far it seems quite good. It is very tough. The .21 v2 is awesome. I haven't broke anything yet and yes, I do crash. It came with 30w shock oil of which I have since changed to 40 and put red Mayhem springs on it. The new motor is excellent. I change to the Trinity Monster 30% since it has a respectable 12% lubricant content and I was so much faster on the straight, at least last night than everyone I encountered on it.

But to much dismay I am not happy with the front suspension travel. The front shock tower and shocks are too short compared to say Kyosho 777 so it doesn't absorb the bumps well at speed. But I have an idea.

The tires that come on it are pretty much just like everyone is using where I race and work well. It handles good and the stock diff fluids seem just fine.

<Updated today>

Well, I have managed to cure the front suspension issue. <crossing fingers>

I used a Rear Shock Tower from the Mayhem ST, then used the Turmoil buggie Front Shock Tower as a template. Amazingly holes match up so I first bolted the FST to the RST at the bottom and scribed it. Then I bolted them together at the top and scribed it. Also, while it was together at the top I drilled through the mounting holes into the RST that will now be the FST. I took them apart and cut it with a Dremel and used a 1/4" rounded Dremel bit to make it curvy and sexy looking.

As far as the shocks, all I did was use Rear Shocks but used the Front Buggie Spings. I stretched out the shorter spings to match the longer shocks and this made it so the springs wouldn't look all bunched up and crooked when compressed because even though this is taller it's not as tall as the rear.

After I test this prototype Shock Tower and all works well then I'll just get a Mayhem ST 5mm RST and do the same thing making it stronger.

Pics: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/alanmc.../ph//my_photos

This all took maybe an hour and a half to do. Stay tuned for tests and comments I receive from other racers.
