you will be struggling to get an OS RG and the VG i've only heard bad things about. Go with the sportwerks, RB or STS. they're all pretty good

I have run some small technical tracks with my STS D21B and like it a lot! I am running the Georgia Champion Series with it and have well over 3 gallons on it and it has no problem with keeping up with most others. In about 3 weeks will be running the D21B RB Mods. Yes I believe the Sports Works would be good as they are made by SH. OS RG is a good low end motor but is discontinued. Do not like the idea with the fact the VG has an ABL sleeve? Both RB, Top engines are good from what I have read. There are a lot of good engines out there!!!!!!!!!

I have an S5, just finished running it in, will let you know. Low end power is serious, had to adjust the exponential to prevent uncontrollable acceleration (XB8, 13t)!! [X(]

Something I might add is the OS RG motor isnt very fuel efficent or at least the two I have arent.

What about the Nova Rossi 21bf? It is suppose to be a very good short track motor with tons of torque.

I know a guy who runs the Rossi 21 bf and he is very happy with it. Very comparable with the B3 in performance and price.

C6BB would fit a technical track fine. Masive bottom end but it's very $$$$.

I have a VG, a Top 21 BF and the Rex 3 port(pretty much identical to the Top). The Top blew a rod bushing 2 races ago, but it had about 5-6 gallons through it, mostly racing. My new Rex runs very much the same, as does the VG. I'm running them all on the same JP-2, in the same Losi 8ight, with the same clutch, and 13T clutch bell on the same two tracks. I'd say they are very close in performance, but the O.S. broke in alot faster and easier, is a little easier to tune, but isn't making the same fuel economy as the Top and Rex so far(it also has the least fuel through it so that may change over the next few days). I have a big race this weekend, the Battle at the Beach, at B&T RC Central here in Ft Walton Beach, Fl. I plan to run the O.S. and use my Rex as a back up. I chose the O.S. because while I know it's not gonna be the fastest motor, it will be among the most reliable...

P.S. I've had many, many O.S. motors over the years; in airplanes, cars, and experienced friends with one in his helicopter. I've never delt with any of them I didn't like...

Great thread by the way.

Guys.... is this all in regard to a .21 motor, or just ANY technical short track motor?

I'm just observing. Makes me want to get an RB S5. I have a Dynamite Platinum .21 right now in my Losi 8ight.

The opinions on the VG that I've seen are largely based on guessing. It is easy to break in, easy to tune and the fuel efficiency is just fine if you get it tuned correctly (which really is a breeze with the 2-needle carb). The only issue left is whether the sleeve will hold up to several gallons. A lot of guys say it won't hold up, but the engine is too new to know for sure. I got one of the first ones and it's very strong after 2 gallons. There is only conjecture, no facts concerning VG durability. I have had nothing but good luck with O.S. engines.

My opinion is th esame , the only people bashing on the VG are the people who don`t have one . Mines on 2+ gallons and keeps getting faster ! plus , properly tuned and warmed up Mine idled for 7 minutes in the parking lot at work the other day just to prove a point .

RB S5 with a RB 198 header & the RB 2020 pipe. No mater what motor you pick it will suck if you put the wrong pipe on it.

Got the VG just about tuned, still a little rich though. Even so...it's fast, and has better bottom end than the Top or the Rex. The top end is better on the other two, they seem like they can rev forever. The O.S. flies off the line, does well in the middle, but starts to fall off top end. I thought about geaing taller, but I like the crazy take off and jumping ability. There's a tricky tripple in the middle of the track. It's much easier to set up for with the O.S. then the other two, and the fuel economy is improving as well. I'm still a few tanks shy of a gallon, the heats for the Battle start tomorow at 9am!

I am not saying the VG is bad but before I put my money down on one I want to hear more from people that have at least 5 gallons on it. I have talked to quite a few that not only have the VG 21 but all so VG 30 and quite a few had issues. Now it could be some are not good tuners or did not break it in properly. But I sure have not heard near as much bad about the RG that was out for years that was ABC then I have on the RG that has not been out long. Just not sold on the ABL sleeve when ABC has proven it self and 90% or better of the engines out there run ABC. VG owners please keep us posted.

I had a really good day with the VG, placed well against the competiton I was in with. I don't yet know what main I'm in, but I'm 20th out of 50+ racers. There's a long straight in the new layout. I never got out motored, and the very good bottom end was perfect for the rest of the track. I'm very pleased with it, and plan to have a good time in the mains tomorow!
