Default RTV and sealing an engine

I have read about this in the car circles, but in 20 years of flying airplanes have never seen it. Using RTV silicone to seal an engine is the question. I have a Torq .21 in a Duratrax Axis thats 4 or so years old. I think I have an air leak by the retainer screw on the Carb's collar. Whats the procedue for sealing this area of the motor? Any help would be much appreciated.....and telling me to dump the motor for a new one or buggy for that matter is not what I am looking for. Thanks

yep definately put some RTV around the neck of the carby and also put some around the back plate. Always a good thing every time you take an engine apart. You dont need much. Just enough to make a good seal.

I had a general idea and that reinforces it. Who wants to get this gunk inside their motor and make a mess. Just playing it safe. Thanks!

oh yeah exactly but with care, just a smear around the pinch bolt is all you need.

Where can you pick up some rtv. I've got my new STS and want to seal it for good measure. Can you get it at Lowes and places like that or do you have to order it.

Here is a link to a step-by-step guide, even using an STS engine, doing exactly what you want to do. Hope this helps! [link=http://www.savage-central.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=54465]How to: Seal a Glow Fuel Engine[/link]
