Best RTR 1/8 gas buggy
Hello,
I want to buy a 1/8 RTR gas buggy in the 200$–370$ price range.
It should be pretty tough and rugged and have a good quality build. It should have a reasonable top speed (40-60mph). Also a reasonable acceleration and agility (should not have for example a .38Ci engine).
Requires 4 wheel drive, disk brakes, a good sealed radio box.
I AM DEFINITELY NOT LOOKING FOR A TOY MODEL!
I was looking at these cars:
Ofna Ravager
Ofna Ultra MBX Comp
Hot Bodies Lightning 2 Sport
Kyosho Inferno US Sports 3
Can anyone help find the best car with these features?
Any personal experiences should be contributed.
Thanks

I was in your shoes not long ago and I decided on the Sportwerks Turmoil RTR and I have been very pleased with it. It does cost a little more but it includes the Spectrum radio and it''s competative if you decide to race. I think Amain has them listed for $439.00 and if you do a search here on RCU you can find a $25 cupon code bringing it down to $414.00.

Try adding it to your cart to get the discount. I just tried it and now they have lowered it to $419 before the cupon... go figure I just purchased mine a month ago! March cupon is still good use DPPMAR825. drops it down to $394
To answer your questions about the RTR versus the Pro. The Pro version has more hop up parts and weighs less than the RTR and geared a little more for racing. All of the Pro parts are available and fit the RTR though. As for the engines they are both very powerful but the .21 is required if you plan on racing sanctioned events where the engines are restricted to .21 size. If you just plan on club racing at your local track then the .26 will.

the sportwerks .21 is a really good motor, and its pretty cheap to rebuild when time comes for it and it holds a tune pretty good. I run the sportwerks .21 and a jp-3 in my rc8. If your a good driver you could most likely keep up with the guys running v-specs

I second the CEN matrix. It is a killer deal at 359 rtr from amain. I own it and after a gallon of hard bashing and racing, the only problem I had was the a rear a-arm coming out of its mount, which was an easy 5 minute fix. It will be a competitive club racer out of the box, and with some hop ups it can be really fast. One huge plus in my book is the sh .28 it comes with now, KIller power.

showtime,
is the Hyper 7 as good as the Ravager or Ultra MBX Comp in terms of quality and durability?

OFNA cars are (IMO) in this order
Hyper 8.5 pro
Jammin X1-CR pro
Hyper 8 RTR
Jammin RTR
Hyper 7 RTR
Ravager
LX-1
There''s probably some other budget versions available but i wouldn''t aim lower than a hyper 7 as the savings just aren''t worth it.
There is a hyper 7 kit still available which is a good deal as you can add a good budget radio and engine and get a very competative club buggy and wonder basher for not a lot of money.

There are no 1/8th gas buggies. If you mean nitro, then I also second the Hyper 7 RTR. It was my first buggy too, and I loved it. Try to find a .21 8 port version.

RE: Best RTR 1/8 gas buggy
leaving aside the price,
is the CEN Matrix C-1 better than the cars we have been talking about here?
How does the Hot Bodies Lightning 2 Sport compare to the Matrix?
Thanks

Nothing against the turmoil as it might be pretty good racer, however, my friend has the pro and he has broke a couple of parts already and the engine is not even fully broken in yet. We are running at the same track etc etc but the hyper takes abuse like no other. Not to mention the parts are everywhere. It is a perfect starter buggy. It is heavy and very durable.
