I've always been a fan of Hobao's value for money and impressive specs. I'd get an 8.5

RE: What Do you think, Losi 8ight Pro Kit or Hyper 8.5 pro kit
This question doesn't even make sense.... The Hyper 8.5 doesn't compare to a high-end race car like the 8ight. The only reason to get a 8.5 is cost. If you can afford the 8ight then get it. If you don't know why I'll tell you, The 8ight plainly does everything better. Take someone that owns a Hyper and is used to it and knows how to drive, give them a High-end race car like the 8ight or RC8 and 9 times out of 10 they will be faster. and yes, I own both. The Hyper was my first 1/8 scale and the first RC I had EVER raced with, when I moved to the 8ight I improved so much that my local club pretty much made me move up to expert.

RE: What Do you think, Losi 8ight Pro Kit or Hyper 8.5 pro kit
Before making your choice there's one aspect nobody talked about, the fact that the eight is very sensitive to set up,my regional championship runs on several very different tracks and contrary to some of my friends who run Mugens and Hypers, i have to go over my settings much more often than them.
The Drake and Truhe set ups only work on tracks that are medium/high grip and somewhat smooth if you go to an outdoor track that isn't well maintained, prepare to watch the rear end of your car hopping all over the place ...
this is just to say that in my experience, the 8 has a narower window as far as set ups are concerned, if you don't mind swaping out shock pistons you can get by with the 8.

wow I just noticed that.... that all current production models are in the 8 series, and the future models in the 9 series.....
why is that? does it go by year or something?
MP8,RC8,Hyper8,ermm 8ight,Xray 808.
MP9, Hyper 9...well thats the only new ones I have seen thus far.

The others yes, except the MP8, you see it doesn't exist The MP9 is the future buggy of kyosho, after the MP777 series.

Hard to drive and sensitive yes. I have two identical setups and compare small variations from one change to another. But once you get the concept of tuning it is really pretty easy. You will get to a base setting, Stock is a good place to start, but you can run the track and change out the settings off of the base setting. Driving... well once the setup is close the car begins to stick the turns and drive out better. In the beginning none of the setting stuff matters. You just need to get the car in a safe setup and then practice the timing around the track, once you find your groove you will see steady improvements in track time. Once you get consistent then you can start adjusting the tuning to help improve small rough spots. But racing is all about finding the groove and staying in it. Drive a little on the conservative side, and as the race goes on start to slowly increase your pace. In the end you can shoot to be in the middle of the pack. As you get your timing down and improve your tuning you will slowly see yourself moving up on the leaders.
