Tommygun...
What is the minimum size area required for a competition in 1/8th buggies? I think the Automodex allowed area might be cut down....this could cause some problems....
Let me know

Well, the ideal area would be 100' x 100' for track space. You could go smaller like 75' x 75' or 75' x 60'. But you'll also need space for the driver's stand, pit lane, pits and viewing areas.

Hey Tommy,
Tried you last night, but you were on the yapper......engaged...
I believe that space limitations could be the only thing to throw a stick in the works. I will keep you upated and will try your number again this evening. In the interim, thanks for the info, will feed it back to the peeps...
If the space is too small, would it be worthwhile in your opinion? I know that as per the design that they have, the max track width that can be done is 3.5m and according to rules and regs online...it should be 4m. right?

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Ideally, a minimum of 10' continuous width around the entire track.
Here's a cool link with some r&r stuff. (don't think these are based on 1:8 scale though)

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Guys, just for your info, I already emailed the below info (as a guide only) to Mr. Robert Paldez of DEO Dubai, organizer of the RC challenge show and Automodex. Now, the main concern here are the materials they have to bring inside the autodrome to build the temporary track especially the soil which they have to lay-out on a tarmac built from asphalt. One more thing, they need to have a good lap timing system. I suggest if they can rent the AMB RC of Mr. Arif.
Cheers!
IFMAR 1:8 OFF ROAD WC RULES
SECTION FOUR – TRACK REQUIREMENTS
4. TRACK
Minimum width: Four (4) meters.
Minimum length: Three hundred (300) meters.
4.1 SURFACE
Artificial surfaces must be of the same type used for road construction. They must not
be potentially dangerous or pollutant. Within the total length of the track fifty per cent
(50%) minimum must be from natural soil.
Any straight longer than ten (10) meters must be from natural soil.
Any section made from artificial surface must not be longer than ten (10) meters.
A natural soil section of a minimum of five (5) meters must always separate two (2)
artificial surface sections.
At location of the lap counting antenna, there must not be any metallic structure.
Deterioration of the natural soil area must not uncover obstacles in the transit area
between natural soil and artificial surface (overlapping slope must be smooth and of
sufficient length).
The track must be suitably drained.
4.2 JUMPS AND OBSTACLES
When initially constructed, no jump will cause a car to launch higher than one and one
half (1.5) meters in height from the base of the jump. Any combination of multiple
jumps is considered to be a one-jump section and each track will have a minimum of
four (4) jump sections.
4.3 SAFETY
Safety for everybody must be the most important aspect when designing the track.
4.4 MAINTENANCE
The track surface may only be repaired at the end of qualifying.
Repairs may be made, at any time, with the concurrence of the Race Director and the
International Jury.
Cheers!

Yeah, just looking at 4 meter width and 300m....I can see this as being a problem....
Just a comment on the laptiming system...is the AMB system using the RClaps software? Does Arif have a number of house transponders?

Arif has a full set of transponders and the computer and software as well. (plus a generator when running at Nad al Sheba)
Gim'me a call if you want me to ask him about it.

RE: Dubai - RC Events
Hey Greg, Long time no see. How you doing?
I have been going to Nad Al Sheba for the past 2 weeks on Friday around 2.30pm and I stay up till 4pm.
The OS world's engine is no different to the one you have. I guess its just the lightened head. I still have the OS Magnesium Head and is running strong on 8 gallons till now. Nothing changed internally.
Is anyone coming this Friday?

RE: Dubai - RC Events
How much did you buy it for?
I have no idea why it is so expensive. It won the world's that is why haha. By the way, the vspec speeds we have got is way to powerful for the nad al sheba track haha.
The link i pasted is probably the blue vspec. It's just got the machined holes and the colour.

OK Gents, time for talk is over. I'll be sending out an email tomorrow to everyone on the mailing list with directions of how to deposit your donations to get the new track built. The more the merrier.
If you're not on the mailing list but want to be, PM me your details please.

I come there at a time where everyone is already using the track which is around 2pm. So there is no time for me at least to use the pipe.
