RE: Brand new to 1/8 scale racing
I would say I would definately buy a buggy that your local LHS sales because I run Kyosho and there is no LHS's near me that sell them. So if I brake something or need a part I have to order them and it is no fun waiting for parts. I know that does not tell you what buggy to buy, it is a start it also depends on how much money you have to spend. Hope that helps.

Whatever decision you make and if money is a factor I would consider your TCO. We certainly don't want you to leave the hobby because of unrealistic expectations.
My suggestion is that you read the forums religiously and make a decision based on what you wish to accomplish / spend.

Yes alot of people will say Cen isn't really the greatest brand but I beg to differ the matrix is right up there with the hyper 8 and ravenger so its a good buggy only if you can afford it. What do you plan to spend around?

I have a CEN Matrix and I like it a lot although I am new to the hobby. I plan to practice until I can race. Down the straights I definitely can keep up with the AE's & Losi's.
Be warned:
I bought a starter box, a Hitech servo for steering, 2 receiver batteries, a receiver battery charger, extra air fllters, 2 igniters (the D cell one I like best), nut drivers, batteries up the wazoo, proline crimefighters (stock tires suck) - wheels, new fuel line, after run oil, nirto spray, glow plugs (sooo many glow plugs), a 17mm tire wrench, a glow plug wrench, roto start that broke, 2 12V batteries and charger for starter box (don't pay more than $15, they rip you off), air filter oil, graphite for pivots, paint brush for cleaning, big tub to transport, temp gun, spare screws, fuel, WD-40, fuel bottle, car stand (plastic basket for fruit), mounted street tires (not ruining my crimefighters!), red and blue locktite, little orange dots to make a track on my street, membership to club, and magazines (sooo many magazines).
so far $1400
but I whined, it only cost $380 for a car!
Seriously, if your new and are going to make many mistakes (crashes, running too lean, learning maintenace) don't buy an expensive car.
